Carmelo Anthony Trade: Knicks Ready for a Playoff Run With 'Melo and Amar'e
I do not believe in instant chemistry, but I do know that exceptional talent sure helps.
With the Carmelo trade finally getting done, we can all step back and predict how this will turn out.
I, for one, think that after an adjustment period, the Knicks will have a loaded lineup that will create matchup misery for their opponents.
Right now, if everything stays as is, the Knicks starting lineup will most likely be:
PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: Landry Fields
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Amar'e Stoudemire
C: Rony Turiaf
Many have talked about how New York gutted its team to make this deal. Not so.
The Knicks still have Toney Douglas to back up Billups at the point.
Eventually, Kelenna Azubuike will return to play on the perimeter.
Shawne Williams is a solid, young SF off of the bench.
And, Shelden Williams, who came over from Denver in the trade, can provide strength and size behind Stoudemire.
As much player movement that this blockbuster deal created, I'm not sure that the Knicks are through. Because of packaging both Timofey Mozgov and Eddy Curry, the Knicks have wiped out their depth at center. This is the biggest immediate concern.
Mike D'Antoni has a midseason challenge on his hands. But, he has more talent to draw from than most people recognize.
If he can get the pieces to fit together in a hurry, the Knicks may be ready to make some postseason noise now and in the future.
