WWE: 5 Things Needs To Change Either for Ratings or Nostalgia's Sake

David RutterJun 7, 2018

Every year whether it's WWE, MLB, NFL, another sports league or even real life, rules and regulations change. Sometimes for good, sometimes for worse and sometimes for reasons people can't understand.

Since we're in the WWE section, let's talk about five things (in my opinion) that need to be changed...

1. This "WWE Universe" Crap

1 of 6

I don't know what others think, but I can't stand listening to wrestlers and authority figures refer to the fan base as the "WWE Universe."  What's wrong with just calling them the fans? It's worked for decades!

I can understand WWE wanting to have a unique way of uniting all of the fans, and I suppose this is marketable (how many people can say they copyrighted their fans?), but the title just doesn't work for me.

What do you guys think?

2. Blood

2 of 6

I understand why blood isn't shown anymore, but there's no reason why they can't bring it back every now and then; it does tell a story in it's own right!

The best example I can think of is Stone Cold vs. Bret Hart—remember when Austin passed out in his own blood?  The fans started to get on his side at that point, and the rest is history!

A few weeks ago, CM Punk suffered a broken nose during the opening segment of Raw. You could clearly see blood running down his face, yet the cameras didn't shy away from that like they normally do....is this a sign of things to come?

3. Good Storytelling

Simply put.....get new writers.....

4. The Tag Team and Women's Division

4 of 6

There was a time long ego when the Tag Team division and Women's division shined with greatness. Matches for the tag titles and women's championship kept fans glued to their seats.

Teams like The Hardy, Dudley's and Edge and Christian would literally put their lives on the line to win titles. Before them came teams like The New Age Outlaws and The Rock n' Sock Connection, who would entertain the fans (I mean WWE Universe) like there was no tomorrow.

Even before those teams were the pioneers of modern day tag teams (Demolition, Legion of Doom and Hart Foundation). There were even times when a tag team match would out-do the main event!

In the present time however, the Tag Team division is a joke filled with dance-offs and other stupid comedy skits.

Things need to change, a.s.a.p.

From '98 until 2007, the Women's division was also a bright spot for the WWE.

Not only were they beautiful, but they were athletic and knew how to entertain. Women like Trish Stratus, Lita, Mickie James, Stacey Keibler, Torrie Wilson, Chyna and Molly Holly graced our screens on a weekly basis, they brought legitimacy to the division that hadn't been seen since the days of The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young.

Let's head back to 2011....who's the champion now? Eve? Sure, she's nice look at, but she's nothing exciting in the ring; she doesn't bring the passion with her like the champions of past. The only truly gifted person on the women's side is Natalya. It's probably because she's a Hart, but damn they trained her well...maybe she can teach the other Divas a thing or two before the Women's division becomes more of a laughing stock than it already is...

5. Eliminate the Brand-Extension

5 of 6

After Vinnie-Mac bought out WCW and ECW the brand extension made sense, there were way too many wrestlers on the roster with a potential goldmine for story lines.

However, it's been nine years since that happened. Sure, we've seen some great feuds on each brand, but there are not as many exciting wrestlers as there once were, most titles are all but forgotten and with the Tag Team Titles and Divas Championship allowed to be defended on both brands could this be a sign of things to come?

Lately we've seen Del Rio on both Raw and SmackDown, Edge has made a few visits to Raw and there was that big 10 man tag match last week on SmackDown (granted it was for the 600th episode).

Think about all the great lead-ups to PPV's we could with story-lines extending on Raw and SmackDown!

Not only that, but I think ratings could possibly go back up because we'd be getting our favorite superstars on both brands.

It would suck for the guys who'd get cut as a result, but they could always go to TNA and help them gain credibility as a competitor. That's good for business for everyone!

Hope I Didn't Put You To Sleep!
