Carmelo Anthony Trade: Denver Nuggets Deal Star To New York Knicks
After months now of wondering where on earth Carmelo Anthony would end up, the tumultuous (and extremely annoying) saga has come to an end only a few days before the trade deadline.
According to sources from the Denver Post and the New York Daily News, Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony got his wish of being sent to the New York Knicks. Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Anthony Carter, and Renaldo Balkman will also join him in New York, as reported by realgm.com.
The Knicks gave up plenty in return, as they sent out a number of their youngest talented players. Sharpshooter Danilo Gallinari, recently acquired Raymond Felton, Russian product Timofey Mozgov, Wilson Chandler, a 2014 first round pick, Golden State's second round picks in 2012 and 2013, as well as $3 million in cash will be sent to the Denver Nuggets' organization.
The Nuggets had been trying for months to reach an agreement with the New Jersey Nets, and while tentative agreements were reached, Anthony always saw New York City as his premiere destination. Even before the season started, New York was the No. 1 option for Melo, who will now get his wish. Not only that, but he gets the benefit of playing alongside Amare Stoudemire and Landry Fields. Aside from those two and Billups, the Knicks roster has now been completely depleted.
Denver doesn't exactly get the short end of the trade either, as they still receive four quality role players and a few draft picks. The loss of a superstar will hurt the franchise for sure, but with so much young talent now joining the team, you can't imagine that Denver will struggle too mightily.
