Wanderlei Silva Presents: New 'Fighter Life' Reality Show
A few days ago the first episode of Wanderlei Silva's "Fighter Life" reality show was released, and it is really well done.
The premise is about the struggle of a group of up-and-coming fighters who go to tryouts for Wanderlei Silva's famous "Wand Fight Team" out of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tons of hungry young guys show up and get pushed, mentally and physically, to see if they have what it takes to be a part of the team.
As could be expected, the fighters with the heart and determination to survive the unrelenting fighter's lifestyle make the cut and get invited to stay together and train out of Vegas.
The production value overall is very good and the insight into the fighter's lives and attitudes is strong, but I do have a couple of gripes with the video.
No.1: During the introductory sequence they flash some text that says "Think a fighter's life is easy?", only to flash another screen moments later that says "then think again".
As if anybody assumes that a fighter's life is easy? Who are those people? Why cater to them?
Personally, I don't think they exist.
No. 2: One of the gentlemen who impresses Wanderlei and is invited to train and stay is a one-armed man.
Props that they avoid taking the easy road and making the show all about him and his singular personal struggle, but on the other hand, there is almost no footage of him sparring.
I am sure they will get more into his story in subsequent episodes, but don't introduce a one-armed fighter if you're not going to show him mixing it up a little bit.
In closing, congratulations to Wanderlei. You are an inspiration to these fighters and the video is turning out very well.
The show seems to be picking up where the original "Ultimate Fighter" left off in terms of a reality show focused on the road traveled for upcoming fighters who have yet to make it and have a lot to learn.
I will be tuning in to see what happens next, I imagine many of you will too.
