NBA Trade Rumors: Odds for Every Team To Make a Move By the Trade
The NBA trade deadline is just three days away and teams are in the midst of preparing their final pitches in order to get those deadline deals completed.
This is one of the most exciting time periods during the NBA season, because fans get a good feel for which teams are trying to be contenders, and which teams are truly pretenders.
The right deal at the trade deadline can boost a teams chances of winning it all, and with that said, there very well could be a new Championship favorite in the NBA by the end of Thursday afternoon.
We have all heard about the Carmelo Anthony rumors, but what other players and teams are going to be active in the next couple of days?
Let's take an inside look at every team in the NBA and the odds that your home team is going to make a move before Thursday.
30. Miami Heat
1 of 30
Odds: 100 to 1
One has to believe that the Miami Heat are going to move forward and make their push for an NBA Championship with the roster they have right now.
The Big Three have been playing exceptional as of late and the role players are coming along. The need for this team is obviously at point guard and center, but they don't have enough talent to get much of an upgrade in return at those two positions.
The Heat also do not have any favorable contracts to offer as trade bait.
Therefore, it looks like this group will be staying put by Thursday and beyond.
29. San Antonio Spurs
2 of 30
Odds: 95 to 1
It's interesting that arguably the two top teams in the NBA appear to be the least likely to make any type of deal before the trade deadline.
The Spurs currently sit at 46-10, which is the best record in the NBA.
They have good scoring, good defense, a top-notch starting five, and a deep and talented bench.
No deal needed here.
28. Toronto Raptors
3 of 30
Odds: 80 to 1
The streak of good teams come to an end here, and the reason that Toronto is near the top of teams least likely to make a deal, is because they simply don't have anyone on their roster that other teams would want to deal for.
Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan are really the only players on the Raptors roster with much value, and both of them will be staying put in Canada this season.
27. New Orleans Hornets
4 of 30
Odds: 75 to 1
This is a team that doesn't quite have enough of what it takes to win an NBA title, but they should make the playoffs and will be a tough out for whoever goes up against them.
With that said, one would think that the move here would be to try and pull of a deadline deal, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen with this group.
The Hornets want to keep Chris Paul in a New Orleans uniform for the rest of his career, but there isn't the type of deal available right now that would sway Paul's decision in any way.\
Look for the Hornets to stay put.
26. Sacramento Kings
5 of 30
Odds: 70 to 1
The only contract here that might be at all appealing is the expiring one of center Samuel Dalembert.
Other than that, the Kings are obviously keeping their big name guys like Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins, and after that, there isn't much to work with.
The Kings are one of the worst teams in the league this season, therefor, making a move would not benefit them much, especially because they already have a lot of cap room for next season's free agent crop.
25. Oklahoma City Thunder
6 of 30
Odds: 65 to 1
The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to continue to improve and as Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook go.
The one gaping hole that this team has is their lack of a presence down low. They could attempt to make a deadline deal and look for someone like a Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman or maybe even Zach Randolph, but that would require them to give up a guy like Jeff Green, something that this team does not want to do.
Odds are that this group is going to stay put and continue to build through the draft and free agency.
24. Washington Wizards
7 of 30
Odds: 65 to 1
Despite a 15-39 record at the All Star break, the Wizards do have some nice, young pieces in place that they probably aren't going to part ways with.
John Wall has had a phenomenal rookie season and Nick Young might be the surprise player of the year, averaging 17.6 points per game this season.
There were some talks earlier in the season that JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche did not get along well and one of them might be moved, but those talks have smoothed over and it appears that everything should stay put in Washington.
23. Orlando Magic
8 of 30
Odds: 50 to 1
The Orlando Magic have already made their big trade move this season, it just happened months before any other team did it.
The Magic pulled off the biggest trade of the year thus far by getting Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark in a three-team deal.
After that, it appears that the Magic will likely stay quiet before the trade deadline hits.
Now, the idea is that we shall sit back and see if the Magic made the right move and if they did enough to compete with Boston and Miami in the East.
22. Portland Trailblazers
9 of 30
Odds: 50 to 1
There were reports earlier today that the Blazers were interested in aquiring Ramon Sessions from Cleveland, but the Blazers were not going to throw the Cleveland Cavaliers anything good in return.
That pretty much sums up the Trailblazers trade possibilities right there.
Portland's top players like Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge are obviously not going to be traded.
Marcus Camby is a guy who could get moved, but he has come out and said he doesn't want to leave and if he was traded, he would even consider retiring.
There isn't much of a market here, which is why I give the Blazers 50 to 1 odds on pulling off a deal before Thursday's deadline.
21. Milwaukee Bucks
10 of 30
Odds: 45 to 1
Here is a question that I have asked on multiple occasions and I'm sure that I'm not the only one: What in the world ever happened to Michael Redd?
It seems like just a few years ago this guy was on the verge of being an NBA superstar and then the past couple of seasons, no one has heard his name mentioned once.
The point here is that Redd is still around, and he has a huge expiring contract.
If the Bucks are going to make any type of move to help save their underachieving season, it most likely will involve shipping Redd.
But then again, who would want him?
20. Minnesota Timberwolves
11 of 30
Odds: 40 to 1
The Timberwolves are a team that has been thrown around trade rumors but then right when it looks like something might happen, another thing always seems to go wrong and the deal goes south.
This team has a core of good, young players between Kevin Love, Wesley Johnson and Michael Beasley.
Unless a mega deal is struck, it's not likely that any of those guys are going anywhere.
Perhaps you could look at a guy like Corey Brewer or Darco Milicic being moved, but what type of value do they really hold?
Minnesota could be a team that is used in a three-way deal, but other then that, it's not likely that they will do anything major before the trade deadline.
19. Golden State Warriors
12 of 30
Odds: 45 to 1
According to an article written in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors have expressed some interest in going after Greg Oden or Yao Ming.
Why doesn't Warriors GM Larry Riley just go out and buy a lottery ticket while he's at it, because those are about the same chances that either Yao or Oden will have a healthy season in the NBA from here on out.
This would be a dumb move for the Warriors, and chances are they aren't going to make a trade for them, but maybe a push once they hit free agency.
Some rumors have been floating around about the idea that Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis can't play together and one has to be traded.
I'm not sure which of these two scenarios sounds more ridiculous?
18. Los Angeles Lakers
13 of 30
Odds: 40 to 1
This has to be the team that everyone is watching to see if they are going to make some sort of deal before the trade deadline.
So let's break this down here: The Lakers are the defending world champions. They have the best player in the game in Kobe Bryant. They have a top-three big man in Pau Gasol. They have a great defensive presence in Ron Artest. And yet, they need to make a trade?
The only way a trade gets done is if they can find some really good value for Artest. And right now, his best value is staying put and playing good defense in order to help this team repeat as NBA Champs.
17. Atlanta Hawks
14 of 30
Odds: 40 to 1
The trade rumor possibility that has been floating around here in Atlanta is that the Hawks are going to make a push at acquiring Steve Nash before the trade deadline.
The deal is based around Josh Smith and Mike Bibby going to Phoenix in return for Nash and most likely a bench player or draft pick.
Chances here are slim to none that a deal like this would happen before the deadline.
16. Phoenix Suns
15 of 30
Odds: 40 to 1
As mentioned in the previous slide, there have been some talks about the Suns shipping Steve Nash and completely rebuilding, but I just don't see that happening right now.
In fact, the Suns have been playing pretty good basketball as of late, winning seven of their last 10 and looking like they could very well make a push for a playoff spot in the second half of the season.
Don't count on the Suns dealing Nash before the deadline, or anyone for that matter.
15. Indiana Pacers
16 of 30
Odds: 35 to 1
Unless Danny Granger is part of a huge deal that is in the making right now, it's not likely that the Pacers are going to make any type of deal before the deadline.
They might ship a guy like T.J. Ford or Jeff Foster before the deadline, but it will be a deal that won't even appear on the sports ticker.
Indiana is six games below .500, but the sad part is that their record might be good enough to hold onto a playoff sport at the end of the season.
14. Boston Celtics
17 of 30
Odds: 22 to 1
Boston is another one of those teams that everyone will have their eyes on to see if they decide to make a move or not.
They have been plagued with injuries as of late. Key players like Shaquille O'Neal, Delonte West, Jermaine O'Neal and Marquis Daniels are all out, and what's more worrisome, is that all of their time tables are completely unknown.
The center position looked like a strength for the Celtics heading into the season, and now with the injuries piling up, it appears to be a weakness once again.
The Celtics will likely take a look at either a big man or a 3-point specialist that can come off the bench and provide a scoring spark. If they can't fine the right guy to fit that role, they won't mess with what is already a Championship caliber roster.
13. Houston Rockets
18 of 30
Odds: 20 to 1
This is a team that has come out and said that they would like to be active before the trade deadline hits. The only problem is, we haven't heard anything as of late and the deadline if just three days away.
Yao Ming likely won't be traded before Thursday. Kevin Martin is a guy who is a big-time scorer, but will Houston get the value they want for him in return?
The one guy who might be dealt to a contender before the deadline is Shane Battier. He is a big body who can defend well and step out and hit the three.
This is an interesting team to keep your eye on in the next couple days. A move might be in the making.
12. Los Angeles Clippers
19 of 30
Odds: 20 to 1
The Clippers are a team that very well could make a move before the deadline, but it wouldn't be a move that would benefit them for the remainder of the season.
The most likely trade target here has to be Chris Kaman.
The Clippers have made it all but clear that they are going to stick with DeAndre Jordan as their center of the future. Therefor, deal Kaman why he still has some value left. Detroit might be a nice fit for the big fella.
11. Utah Jazz
20 of 30
Odds: 20 to 1
Mehmet Okur is a guy who has been hurt as of late and his value is starting to drop, so the Jazz might very well look to ship him while he has some value remaining at all.
Another guy who could be mentioned in trade talks is Andrei Kirilenko. He has a huge contract that expires as the end of the year, so if any team is looking for a lock down defender to take on for half a season and then dump this offseason, AK-47 could be the guy.
Either of these two players could be dealt, but as of right now, chances aren't in their favor.
10. Philadelphia 76ers
21 of 30
Odds: 20 to 1
The two guys that have to come to mind when talking about a potential deal here are Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala.
Getting a deal done depends on if this club believes that they are a contender or pretender at this point in the season.
The 76ers currently sport a 27-29 record, which is good for the seventh spot right now in the East. If they trade Iguodala, they will likely be looking to get some good value in return that can help them propel into the playoffs this season and beyond.
9. Charlotte Bobcats
22 of 30
Odds: 15 to 1
Gerald Wallace or Stephen Jackson? Take your pick at which player is more likely to get dealt before Thursday's trade deadline. Maybe neither?
The rumors have been flying around and a number of destinations have been brought up for both of these players. The most popular rumors have involved Wallace ending up in Cleveland or Jackson ending up in Dallas or Chicago.
Right now, it looks like neither of these guys will be dealt, but that could very well change in the next day or two. Give it 15 to 1 odds, that sounds about right.
8. Chicago Bulls
23 of 30
Odds: 12 to 1
The Chicago Bulls look awfully good with what they have going right now for them. But could you imagine how good this team could be with Joakim Noah coming back healthy and the addition of a starting shooting guard?
The problem here is: who do they go after and who do they have that they can move?
The one guy that comes to mind is Taj Gibson. With Carlos Boozer and Noah expected to be healthy for the second half of the season, Gibson becomes expendable if you can find a shooting guard worthy of making that trade.
Remember, Gibson has been somewhat of an unsung hero in the Bulls rise back to prominence, so they will have a big decision to make in the upcoming days.
7. Detroit Pistons
24 of 30
Odds: 8 to 1
Here is where we get to the teams that truly are most likely to make a move before the trade deadline hits.
As far as the Pistons go, let's face it, Joe Dumars hasn't made the best front office moves as of late. It all started with dealing Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson, and then signing Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva for a combined $100 million certainly didn't help the teams cause. Both of those guys are having the worst years of their career.
But with the Pistons likely out of the playoff picture for a second straight year, they do have a chance to make a deal at the deadline that could help them.
Rip Hamilton has to be on his way out of Detroit, and while his value is not very high right now, getting anyone at this point would be better then sitting Hamilton on the bench, which is what the Pistons plan has been as of late.
Tayshaun Prince has been another hot name in trade rumors. He is a player that could be dealt by the deadline as well, although Hamilton is more likely to be sent packing.
Either way, Dumars has a chance to redeem himself here, and bringing in a guy like Chris Kaman would be a nice move for a team that is in desperate help of some depth down low.
6. Memphis Grizzlies
25 of 30
Odds: 7 to 1
The two names that have been hot in trade talks are both Zach Randolph and O.J. Mayo.
I think it's pretty simple. If the Grizzlies trade away Randolph, they are not going to make the playoffs. If they trade away Mayo, they get rid of a bit of a headcase, but they better get some type of value in return.
Memphis is a team that is right on the verge of being a playoff contender. They have a very important decision to make here in the next 72 hours.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers
26 of 30
Odds: 6 to 1
Guess what Dan Gilbert? You could swallow your pride and trade your entire starting lineup away for LeBron James, and you still wouldn't make the playoffs this season.
As it stands right now, the Cavs are 10-46 and are the laughing stock of the NBA. But that doesn't stop them from making a move.
One name that has been floating around trade talks is Ramon Sessions. Atlanta, Portland and New York are all potential landing spots for the Cavs guard.
Either way, it's likely that this team will do something within the next couple of days.
4. Dallas Mavericks
27 of 30
Odds: 5 to 1
Doesn't it seem like the Dallas Mavericks always have something up their sleeve come this time of year?
This year should be no different. With Caron Butler going down with an injury, the team is in need of a shooting guard to help spell Jason Terry.
I don't think that the Mavericks have enough pieces to land a major player, especially because they want to hold onto guys like Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion.
But when we talk about the Dallas Mavericks and the trade deadline, something is likely to get done here soon.
3. New York Knicks
28 of 30
Odds: 5 to 1
It could be fair to say that if the Knicks do not make a deal for Carmelo Anthony, they probably won't make a deal at all.
With that said, I do believe that the Knicks are the favorite to sign Anthony at this point. It's where he wants to go, and you have to believe that they really want him there.
The current deal on the table involved the Knicks trading Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton and their 2014 first-round pick to Denver for Anthony,Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams and Anthony Carter. New York has said they are drawing the line in the sand and that is as far as they will go.
Now all we can do is wait and see.
2. New Jersey Nets
29 of 30
Odds: 3 to 1
The Nets want Carmelo Anthony, but does Anthony want the Nets? It's the question that everyone is waiting to see unfold in the next three days.
All signs point to the Nuggets doing whatever they can to get this deal done, a lot just rides on if Anthony wants to sign that extension with the Nets.
But the reason that the Nets are above the Knicks is because if they do not get the Carmelo deal done, chances are that they will still try and make another deal instead.
Troy Murphy will all but surely be dealt, and Devin Harris could be in the mix to another team as well.
1. Denver Nuggets
30 of 30
Odds: 2 to 1
The Nuggets have options and they are in a position where they can deal Carmelo Anthony and get some valuable pieces back in return.
The Nets offer would give them Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and an abundance of draft picks. The Knicks offer gives them Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and a 2014 first round pick.
All signs point to one of these two deals getting done within the next couple of days.
Bottom line, if this deal does not get done, it will go down as the most disappointing trade debacle in NBA history.
Every sports fan has to be rooting for one of these deals to get done, just simply so they don't have to hear about it anymore.
Now all we can do is just sit back and wait to see how this all unfolds.
