Can Duke's Seth Curry Live Up To His Family Footsteps?

Curtis ClontzFeb 20, 2011

Everyone has heard the mantra "blood is thicker than water."  Duke's Seth Curry has royal blood pumping through each of his veins.  He is not only a member of the illustrious Duke family, but it is hard-pressed to find a better basketball family of his own.

The Curry Clan consists of Dell, Stephan and Seth.  Dell and Steph have done their share of damage on the hardwood, now it is time for Seth to step up and become a kingpin in this much improved team of stars, talent and hard work.

Dell Curry was a sniper of a shooter.  Every time he shot the ball, it had a chance to go in.  Unfortunately, during his NCAA tenure the long ball still only counted for two.  The Virginia Tech Hokie made it to two NCAA tourney's but never advanced outside of the first round.

Dell's college success was worthy of making him the 15th pick in the NBA draft.  While it took some time for him to find his place, the Charlotte Hive is where he would eventually call home.

Often called the best sixth man in the league, Dell became a staple of the Hornet offense coming off the bench better than almost anyone.  His beautiful stroke and knack for dropping threes helped him become the highest scoring player to ever don a Hornets jersey (Charlotte or New Orleans).

Dell may have been a great player in the NBA, but his son Stephan is leaving a larger shadow for Seth to sit in.  Stephan recently won the NBA Skills Competition and is becoming a real threat for Golden State.

In college, Stephan put the weight of the Davidson Wildcats on his shoulders and made them a must-watch team throughout their two NCAA runs.  Although falling short, his play was incredible and made the institution a household name deep into March.

Steph like Dell was dangerous beyond the arc.  So dangerous that he was able to set the NCAA record for three-pointers made in a season.

Steph's accolades are nothing short of remarkable for anyone, but is nothing more than proof that this family has an impressive bloodline of basketball talent.

Seth tried the small college thing, and led Liberty in scoring during his freshman year, averaging over 20 points per game.  After sitting and watching his team win a title, this season he is hungrier than ever.  Not to mention, he didn't get a ring from last year's title team.

It was uncertain how Seth would step into this season.  Many felt he had the talent to become a true scorer, while others said he is merely a fraction as good as his family members.

On the season, Curry is averaging only nine points per game, but he is doing much more than that.  He is quickly becoming the third option.  He has scored 20-plus twice and 10-plus 11 times.  In his last four games, he has scored single digits once.

As the season wears down, it appears that Kyrie is lost for the season.  Duke doesn't have a solid "Big Three" like last year, but Seth is starting to step up.  This welcome assistance is very much needed as this team tried to become a No. 1 seed, and win the ACC.

It is certain Seth won't be the focal point of this team this season, but he is just as important as he could be the final piece that helps this team push for a repeat.
