Ohio State Basketball: Thomas' First Half Sparks Buckeyes to Victory

David GarrettFeb 27, 2011

Ohio State Buckeyes fans everywhere will tell you that if Sullinger is in foul trouble, the Buckeyes must be struggling.

Earlier on in today's game, that is just what happened.

He only had two points, both of which from free throws, and he was called for his second foul. His team was only up 10-8.

That was until Deshaun Thomas entered the game.

After he entered, the Buckeyes went on a tear, sparked by back-to-back threes. This guy is known for his energy and his defensive prowess, but watching him today, he was instant offense.

The moment Sullinger went out of the game, the Buckeyes outscored the Indiana Hoosiers 28-15 to end the half with Thomas almost outscoring them himself with 16. This coming from a guy who only averages 7.7 points a game.

The Buckeyes did not need much after that, either. Sullinger, being the smart player he is, did not get called for another foul in the game. They didn't need to play him much to score the victory, though, as they rolled the Hoosiers, 82-61.

Indiana, much of the day, looked like an outclassed team trying to work their hardest to just stay in it, and they did not have much luck at that. Their team was hampered with fouled trouble with three of their five starters having two fouls in the first half.

Every time they got something going, the Buckeyes seemed to buckle down and take control back.

Moving off of this victory, the Buckeyes look to continue rolling as they go on the road Tuesday to play a tough Penn State team who is looking to stay on the bubble and get into the big dance.
