Carmelo Anthony, Albert Pujols and Kevin Kolb: Which Stars Will Be Traded First?
The NBA All-Star break is this weekend. The NFL offseason is officially underway. Spring Training is about to begin.
What does this mean?
Trade rumors are reaching lava-like temperatures.
This year, some of the biggest names in sports headline trade rumors.
A top-10 player like Carmelo Anthony could be on the move.
The best player in baseball, Albert Pujols, is seeking a new contract.
Kevin Kolb appears dead set to leave Philadelphia after the Eagles gave Michael Vick the franchise tag.
Which of these three stars, among a host of other high-profile players will be on the move first?
10. Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners
1 of 10
For some reason, there have been some rumors swirling that Felix Hernandez could possibly be traded by the Seattle Mariners.
Ha!
There is no way in hell Felix Hernandez will be traded.
He rightfully won the Cy Young award in 2010 and is the cornerstone of the Mariners’ pitching staff.
Hernandez, for some odd reason, is enjoying his stay in Seattle.
9. Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals
2 of 10
At this point, I think St. Louis would rather let Pujols walk than trade him. With him, they’re constantly a Championship threat.
Without him…well, there is Matt Holliday after all.
I don’t buy into any of the rumors that Pujols will be traded.
This is the best player in the MLB that we’re talking about.
St. Louis has an offer on the table for Pujols, it just depends on if Pujols will sign.
He’s certainly not getting traded before the season starts—they’d have no hope to win the World Series.
8. Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
3 of 10
Steve Nash no longer serves a purpose in Phoenix.
The Suns will not be competing for a Championship anytime soon.
Phoenix may as well try to get some pieces in return for him.
Yet with two years left on his contract, it is doubtful Phoenix will trade its two-time MVP winner.
They’ll wait till' next season when they can trade his expiring contract to a Championship contender in need of a fantastic point guard.
7. Michael Young, Texas Rangers
4 of 10
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.
Young is all set to leave the 2010 AL Champs.
The problem though is that Colorado has backed out of trade negotiations.
There are plenty of teams that could use a quality third basemen like Young—he’ll be traded once the right offer is on the table.
6. Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 76ers
5 of 10
There have been rumors since the summer that the 76ers will trade Iguodala. They seem ready to move on from their swingman, although there’s not much point at this time.
Iguodala’s contract isn’t awful and the 76ers are in the playoffs if the season ended today (I know, it doesn’t).
Iguodala will never be more than he is now in terms of a player, but it doesn’t seem likely that any team will swoop in and woo the 76ers to trade its franchise player this season.
5. Chad Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals
6 of 10
Chad Johnson changed his name back and now it’s time for a change of scenery.
Like the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati will soon clean house.
Come the draft, Johnson will be gone as a Championship contending team looks to bolster its offense to secure a Championship run.
Johnson still has a bit left in the tank and on a winning team, he’ll miraculously play better than last year.
4. Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 10
Carson Palmer reportedly put his house up for sale.
You know what that means!
Come draft weekend, Palmer is out of Cincinnati and off to another team, like San Francisco or Minnesota.
The Bengals might as well trade their disgruntled quarterback for picks or players and move on from this Carson Palmer-era.
3. Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins
8 of 10
The Albert Haynesworth experiment has been a complete disaster.
He’s been a trouble maker his entire time in Washington.
He doesn’t fit the defensive scheme.
He’s been humiliated by head coach Mike Shanahan.
He will now most likely be suspended by the NFL for a couple of games due to his recent off-field issues.
He will certainly be traded during the draft for a late round draft pick; perhaps Tennessee would take him back where he once dominated.
2. Kevin Kolb, Philadelphia Eagles
9 of 10
The Eagles gave Michael Vick the franchise tag.
That means Vick is the starter for at least one more year.
That means Kevin Kolb will be shipped off this offseason to a team in need of a quarterback.
There are plenty of potential suitors and Kolb’s value may never be higher.
Kevin Kolb is fed up with Philly, there’s no reason for him to stick around.
The Eagles will get something while they can as they eye a Super Bowl in 2011-2012.
1. Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets
10 of 10
The Nuggets are ready to trade Carmelo Anthony.
Despite Anthony saying last week that he might sign Denver’s extension if he isn’t traded this year, Anthony really has no desire to stay with the Nuggets.
Denver needs to get something while they can. Whether it’s young players or expiring contracts, Denver has to prepare for life without ‘Melo.
The Nuggets had an offer on the table to the New York Knicks but they balked at the proposal. Even though Anthony wasn’t traded, this means Denver has every intention to do so before the trade deadline so they aren’t left with nothing like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.
