NBA Trade Rumors: Should The Chicago Bulls Deal For Carmelo Anthony?

John RozumFeb 15, 2011

The way the season has gone for the Chicago Bulls thus far, the first impression of a any deal that would land Carmelo Anthony to the organization, is usually rejected.

But let's dig a little deeper and make a conscientious decision, so we can become more rational people.

Three of Chicago's starters are solid and are in no need of replacement (Rose, Boozer and Deng), and once Joakim Noah gets healthy, that will give the Windy City four out of five.

However, the shooting guard has been shared between Keith Bogans, Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver.

So, the question is whether or not Chicago can get deep into the postseason with virtually three guys rotating as the second guard.

Also, to begin, Anthony is technically listed as a small forward, but having him there and at shooting guard will only add depth.

As for Chicago's three, Kyle Korver easily has been the most productive, currently averaging over eight points per game and is 86 percent from the free throw line.

Also, his three-point and field goal percentages are both over 40 percent.

As for Bogans, he only averages over 17 minutes and almost four points per game.

His shooting, however, is not nearly productive: 39 percent on field goals, 35 percent from three-point range and a dismal 58 percent from the line.

Ronnie Brewer, on the other hand, is a bit more productive than Bogans, but still nowhere near where he needs to be.

Averages over six points and 23 minutes per game, but is only 23 percent from three-point range and a career-low 68 percent from the free throw line.

However, his 46.8 percent field goal percentage is impressive.

For alll three players their stats are not quite indicative of their roles on the team, mainly because their combined average minutes per game are only about 20 minutes.

But a more dangerous threat is still needed there.

Anthony can be that guy since he averages 35 minutes and 25 points per game, not to mention he is 82 percent from the line and 45 percent shooting shooting jumpers.

His three-point range is a bit lackluster at only 33 percent, but it makes up for that by bringing down seven rebounds per game.

Based on what the Bulls need at shooting guard, should Chicago opt out of Carmelo or should they make a deal?

Also, if the Bulls were to pursue the Nuggets, the next question would have to be, "HOW do they make a deal for Carmelo Anthony?" As opposed to, "SHOULD they make a deal?"

Looking at the way this season has gone however, there's no reason to try and fix something that isn't broken.

So, Bulls fans, is a trade for Carmelo Anthony on your to-do list?
