NBA Home Cooking: Which Broadcasters Have the Best Local Flavor?
So now that I have been enjoying my NBA League Pass for a couple of years, I find it entertaining to catch the flavor of the local broadcasts for the various teams, and it strikes me that some of the broadcasters are much better than others. Who's your favorite? Who do you think is really bad?
I don't watch many Cavs games anymore since LeBron went to the Heat, and I really miss Austin Carr. I'm not saying his analysis is brilliant or anything, I just feel like listening to him doing games is like watching games with your favorite uncle. And he has some great phrases: Varejao is PRICELESS!
I don't think much of the Heat broadcasters, although I could listen to (watch, really) Johanna Gomez do halftime interviews all day, if you know what I mean.
Sean Elliot for the Spurs is solid, and so is Phil Chenier for the Wizards, but neither is overly exciting.
Now, Tommy Heinsohn, if you ask me, is a joke. He's such a grump, and he's such a ridiculous homer. The Celtics never foul. Every shot they miss is a missed call by the refs. Seriously, they should get rid of that guy, even though he's been there like a million years. I also think the Bulls broadcasters are undermined by what homers they are.
Possibly the best all-around broadcast team is the Knicks', with the ever professional Mike Breen and the great Walt Frazier.
What do you guys think? Who's fun? Who's insightful? Who's a blowhard?
I'd be interested for recommendations. I might check out a few games just to hear the best local broadcasts.
