Ohio State Buckeyes: Winning Streak Comes To an End in Madison...Again

David GarrettFeb 12, 2011

The Ohio State Buckeye football team brought their undefeated record and No. 1 ranking into Madison during the Fall, and that is just what they did...fell.

Fast forward to today...

The Ohio State basketball team being the only undefeated team left entered Madison riding a 24-game winning streak and the No. 1 rank in the nation. They looked to do what their football couldn't four months ago.

This game started off just like the football game, Wisconsin striking first by jumping out to a 12-6 lead. The Buckeyes answered back by tying the game up. This would happen again and again throughout the first half—the Buckeyes would tie the game up, the Badgers would answer with a basketball until the very last play of the first half—when the Buckeyes took the lead into halftime 28-26.

At the end of the half it looked as if the Buckeyes were going to run away with the game. They rushed out to a 47-32 lead. The Badgers had the answer though, and they did it throughout the game, the three-pointer. Usually that is something you talk about with the Buckeyes, but the Badgers put on a clinic hitting 50 percent of them (12-24).

It seemed like every time they lined up for one, it went down. And it wasn't just one player hitting them either.

Leading the way for the Badgers was Jordan Taylor with 27 points, seven assists, four rebounds and one blocked shot. He shot five-of-eight from behind the three-point line, while his teammates Josh Gasser hit a perfect three-of-three and Mike Bruesewitz went two-for-two.

Despite this, the Buckeyes had their chances to win this game, but just came up short. William Buford led the way with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists. Jared Sullinger added 19 points, 12 rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot.

This four-point loss leaves Buckeye fans asking, "Why to Wisconsin?" as it has happened again.

I believe the Buckeyes will be fine and now with the taste of losing they have in their mouth, I feel they will be able to move past this and prepare themselves for a deep run into the tournament.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will look to rebound Tuesday at home against the Michigan St. Spartans. While the Wisconsin Badgers will try to ride this momentum as they travel down to Purdue to face the Boilermakers.
