Boston Celtics: Ray Allen's Got Game, and a New Record
On Thursday, February 10, 2011, the basketball world stopped and watched Ray Allen break the record for three-point shots made in a career.
The record, previously held by Reggie Miller, was broken in the first quarter of the Lakers-Celtics matchup on TNT.
Allen now has the record with 2,562 three-point shots made in his career—and counting.
Rajon Rondo—as he typically does—set up the play.
After pushing the ball up the court following a Laker miss, he looked back and saw Allen trailing. Then, he made sure to deliver a perfect pass for Allen to pull up for a transition three.
On the Lakers' following possession, Andrew Bynum was fouled and sent to the free throw line. While Bynum was at the line, Allen walked over to Miller, who was announcing the game, and the two shared an embrace showing mutual respect between the two.
Allen is having the best season of his career from beyond the arc, shooting 46.2 percent. It is also his best season shooting in general, with a 50.7 percent field goal percentage.
This is Allen's 14th season in the NBA.
Allen scored 20 points tonight, but was in foul trouble through the first three quarters. However, the fouls were not the only things spoiling Allen's record-breaking night.
The Celtics fell to the Lakers tonight, 92-86, with Kobe Bryant closing the game out in the fourth quarter. The Laker bench came into the game and played well, sustaining their lead so that Bryant could return and finish off the Celtics.
Allen has proven from his time with the Bucks, the Supersonics, and Celtics, that he is deadly from deep.
Tonight only solidifies his spot as the best three-point shooter in the history of the NBA.
