Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: 10 Reasons Everyone in the NBA Is Overreacting
Dwight Howard Trade Rumors have only been a topic of discussion because of Orlando's efforts to try and put a championship team around Howard.
Howard wants to win a championship in Orlando and the Magic have tried their best to do that with two major trades this season. There's been a big reaction to the rumors that Howard could be headed to the Lakers or Knicks after next season and inside are 10 reasons why this is all a major overreaction.
What do you think about the rumors about Howard's future? Leave it in the comments.
No. 10: Major Players Always Tied To Marquee Teams
1 of 10
How many times have we heard about a major player heading to New York?
Does LeBron James ring a bell? What about Joe Johnson? Neither of those players landed with the Knicks. When big time players have a chance to hit the market, people always want to tie them to the most historic franchises in the league.
I'm highly skeptical that Howard is already looking for some California love or has an empire state of mind a year before his contract is up.
No. 9: Orlando Can Still Contend For Championships
2 of 10
Just because Orlando has been up-and-down this year, doesn't mean the Magic can't still make a run.
Who saw Orlando making it to the NBA Finals a couple of years ago? The pieces are there, it's just a matter of getting people clicking on the same page and having those perimeter shots go down like they usually do.
If they do, the Magic can compete for championships and keep Dwight Howard happy.
No. 8: Howard Can't Re-Sign If He Wanted To
3 of 10
With the NBA's uncertain labor situation, Dwight Howard has said he can't even re-sign with the Magic.
People can talk about his future all they want, but it's a moot point because Howard is under contract for another season and then Orlando and its big man can sit down and start to talk about about a new deal for the franchise player.
Anything else is pure speculation.
No. 7: Howard Isn't Hyping Up Free Agency
4 of 10
This isn't like the Summer of LeBron.
Dwight Howard hasn't said a word about his impending free agency until these rumors came out and he lashed out in anger that it was even an issue. With LeBron James, his free agency was being hyped up for years and years and you could see the pieces in place that led him to leave Cleveland.
There is no such atmosphere in Orlando.
No. 6: Wants To Win In Orlando
5 of 10
One thing no one has ever questioned is Dwight Howard's dedication to the Orlando Magic.
After these rumors came out, Howard said that he wants to win a championship with the Magic and that he's focused on this year, not next offseason, when he can sign with any team as a free agent. Howard has always been loyal to the Magic and all he wants to do is win a title and bring it back to Orlando.
I know we've heard it from other superstars in the past, but Howard's never been anything but genuine.
No. 5: No Public Statements Hinting Displeasure
6 of 10
When did you ever hear Dwight Howard talk about how frustrated he is in Orlando?
Have you ever heard him ponder his future in Orlando?
The answer to both of those questions is no. Howard has done nothing but talk about what is best for the Magic and how he can help get the team back to the Finals.
These rumors make it seem like he's looking for a better situation when we've heard nothing that would make us to believe that's the case.
No. 4: Howard's Annoyance
7 of 10
When rumors of Dwight Howard leaving came up, Howard wasn't pleased.
Howard went to Twitter and to anyone that would listen to complain about the rumors and how he was focused on Orlando, not Los Angeles and not New York. When other superstars have had rumors about their fate (I'm looking at you LeBron James and Chris Bosh), they've embraced the drama.
Howard's reaction to the rumors is very telling.
No. 3: Orlando Is Still Gelling
8 of 10
Orlando made two huge trades this year and they haven't exactly paid off in the short-term.
The Magic have struggled at times, especially against the top teams in this league and Orlando has looked like a team struggling to find its identity. Well, that's what happens when you shuffle a lot of pieces around. It just takes time to figure things out.
Just give it time and we'll see the Magic go on a big tear before the end of the year
No. 2: Thoughts Of Last Summer
9 of 10
The fans of Cleveland and Toronto know all too well what it's like to see a superstar leave town.
Those cities haven't been the same since when it comes to basketball and Orlando has seen it happen before with Shaquille O'Neal, who left to go to the Lakers, who are on the list of teams Dwight Howard is reportedly looking at.
That raw memory and last summer has people overreacting to these rumors.
No. 1: We're Over A Year Away
10 of 10
Seriously, why is this even a topic of discussion?
Dwight Howard isn't a free agent until after next season and there's nothing either side can do about it right now. This just seems like speculation about something that no one has even been talking about until these rumors came out.
Nothing can change in the next couple of months, so why is there this big reaction to the rumors? It should have never gotten to the point where Howard had to address them on Twitter.
