NBA Rumors: Top 10 Superstars For The New York Knicks Besides Carmelo Anthony
As you can see, Spike Lee isn't too happy in finding out about the trade talks between LA and Denver for Carmelo Anthony.
Well Spike, maybe if you asked him to be in one of your movies then 'Melo may have put more consideration into your Knickerbockers.
Needless to say Knicks fans, there is still plenty of talent available. You just have to remain open to anything that can potentially make New York even more competitive.
So who's out there? Read this top 10 players list to see who New York should go after.
10. Gilbert Arenas, PG Orlando Magic
1 of 10
After going through some off-the-field problems, it seems as though Arenas has gotten somewhat back on track.
Also, he must have been humbled by everything that has occurred, otherwise the media would have been all over the news had he complained about being a backup.
Plus, in being traded mid-season to Orlando from Washington, Arenas has been quiet enough to go under the radar.
But, if there's a city that could relinquish his career and revive his reputation, New York would be the city.
Question is whether or not the Knicks feel he could act as an influence on their younger guards from an experience standpoint (both on and off the court).
9. Chris Andereson, C Denver Nuggets
2 of 10
Based on his tattoos alone, Birdman should be welcomed to New York with open arms.
Now, although he's not the starting center in Denver, Anderson averages more rebounds per game than any of the Knicks centers.
His character and personality will not only bring fans to the garden, but his effort on the court will be well-liked and respected.
Not to mention his average of one block per game which is more than two of the Knicks centers, and also weighs much less; thus his quickness gives him the edge under the rim.
8. Marcus Camby, PF Portland Trail Blazers
3 of 10
I know time is of the essence with Marcus, but early in his career he was a part of the Knicks 1998-1999 Eastern Conference Championship team.
Although he's older than most, he has proven time and time again that he can still ball it up.
Currently Camby is averaging just over 11 rebounds and 28 minutes per game.
So the best asset he could bring back to NYC could be one of two things:
1. Fill in for A'mare when he gets hurt or needs a breather, and/or
2. Take over playing center to solidly help out in the paint.
He won't be able to give a full game, but can significantly contribute when needed.
7. Anthony Morrow, SG New Jersey Nets
4 of 10
The most difficult about this would be the fact that both teams are in the same division.
However, on one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, Morrow averages 13 points per game and is shooting 43 percent from three-point range.
Not to mention his 48 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free throw line.
He could obviously add depth to New York's guard play, but some decent talent as well.
Then combine talent with depth, the Knicks could be more versatile come post-season play.
6. Jason Terry, SG Dallas Mavericks
5 of 10
Experience, talent and proof that with age comes wisdom.
In terms of trade talks, he may cost less than someone in their 20's, but as consistent as Terry has played throughout his career, he deserves a respectable contract.
Plus, when you play for a guy who has as much money as Mark Cuban, you may not want to leave based on the seven figure salary.
Where does he fit in with the Knicks? Well, much like Gilbert Arenas he has experience and talent, but doesn't come with the off the court baggage.
Also, in being a 33-year-old that averages 16 points per game, he's part of a 36-15 Maverick team that also starts a 37-year-old Jason Kidd.
Did I mention that with age comes wisdom?
5. Jamal Crawford, G Atlanta Hawks
6 of 10
It wouldn't be easy to get Jamal from Atlanta, especially when he's averaging 16 points per game as a bench player.
But, much like adding talent and depth with Anthony Morrow, Crawford also has more experience.
Not to mention Knick fans, he played in New York from 2004-2008 (and partly in 2008-2009).
While in New York, Jamal averaged 18 points, over four assists and 36 minutes per game.
Plus, he started 221 of the 299 games he appeared in, while shooting over 80 percent from the line and over 40 percent from the field.
4. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, C Miami Heat
7 of 10
Okay so he's not a true NBA center, but in being a center nonetheless, Z has an outstanding jump shot.
Playing on the Miami Heat means that all you're going to be asked to do is play D because of the "Big Three."
Playing in New York, coach Mike D'Antoni could have a more versatile offense.
With Z's jump shot and A'mare's physical toughness and play, they could swap positions from time to time and keep opponents on their toes.
Plus, Z's most physical game in the paint still wouldn't match A'mare, otherwise why would he shoot so many jump shots?
One other aspect is that the Heat have five, I repeat five centers. I'm all for depth, but five seems excessive, especially when LeBron has the athleticism to play anywhere, including center.
3. Ben Gordon, SG Detroit Pistons
8 of 10
Ben Gordon has a good five years left in him and can bring versatility to the court.
He has shown he can play either guard position which helps for depth.
Plus, he has talent and even though he most likely will not have a breakout year, he can give you a solid half of play.
Currently averaging 12 points per game as well as being 86 percent from the line and 44 percent from the field.
Pair him with a guy like A'mare down low and one of two things will happen:
1. Assists will drastically increase since he has yet to play with a presence in the paint like Mr. Stoudemire, and/or
2. He will be freed up for more shots as well as to drive the lane.
One big thing about Ben Gordon; when he gets hot, he gets freaking hot.
Ben Gordon in the zone is as good as anyone in the league, which would help come playoff time.
2. Serge Ibaka, PF Oklahoma City Thunder
9 of 10
A young and upcoming star for the youngest team in the NBA, Serge Ibaka could put the Big Apple back atop the NBA's Eastern Conference.
Ibaka is currently averaging 9.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 block per game.
For being only 21, Serge has a ton of potential and if paired inside with A'mare Stoudemire, that's a deadly combo.
Not only would the Knicks D improve, but he would help free up Stoudemire, Gallinari and Ray Felton for more buckets.
Although he's technically listed as a PF, he's also the Thunder's backup center, so his versatility would suit the Knicks need for a stud center.
1. Andrew Bynum, C Los Angeles Lakers
10 of 10
Bynum and Stoudemire would dominate under the bucket in the Eastern Conference no doubt.
Plus, it would be beyond epic to see them two face off against Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins down low.
This would bring the Boston-New York sports rivalry to another level and it would be great for the NBA.
Bynum is clearly better than anyone the Knicks have at center, but the only problem would be who they would be able to give up for Andrew.
Regardless, New York should at least attempt to get him just to entertain the sports world.
