NBA Power Rankings: Derrick Rose And The NBA's Point Guards
We all know that it is a point guard driven league. Every team lives and dies by the productivity of their point (besides the heat), and when teams start to lose, it usually starts with the guy running the offense. With the way that the game is called, guards have become more successful than ever at getting to the rim and either dishing the ball out or finishing with authority.
Here are the NBA's best point guards, 30 to 1.....
30. Mario Chalmers
1 of 30
Chalmers is the weak link on the Miami Heat. At this point, his job is to not screw up...hopefully thats not too much to ask.
| 6.2 | 2.2 | 1.0 | .362 | .946 |
29. Ramon Sessions
2 of 30
No player on a team with the losing streak the Cavaliers have can be considered anything but a bottom 5 point guard.
| 11.3 | 4.8 | 0.6 | .000 | .829 |
28. Derek Fisher
3 of 30
Fisher's best days are behind him and the Lakers might have kept him on a little bit too long.
27. Luke Ridnour
4 of 30
Ridnour is a nice player, but not a game changer. He has not been on many successful teams and is essentially a back up in a starters role.
| 11.5 | 5.7 | 1.3 | .439 | .908 |
26. D.J. Augustine
5 of 30
There is a glaring hole in the Bobcats offense at the point guard position. The team tried to trade for one in the offseason, and again during the season; the lack of leadership has cost Larry Brown his job.
| 15.0 | 6.3 | .67 | .379 | .904 |
25. Rodney Stuckey
6 of 30
When the Pistons drafted Stuckey, they did not envision this lack of productivity. The team has gotten worse and its not a lack of talent; its a lack of leadership.
| 15.3 | 4.5 | 1.1 | .269 | .868 |
24. Kyle Lowry
7 of 30
Lowry is on this list because Aaron Brooks is an n/a with injuries. Lowry was signed to an offer sheet which was immediately matched by the Rockets. He has been very valuable to them in the absence of their top point guard.
| 11.4 | 6.4 | 1.5 | .353 | .724 |
23. Darren Collison
8 of 30
Collison came over from the Hornets, but has not been as good as the team hoped. His statistics are unimpressive, and the team is sitting right outside of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.
| 13.9 | 4.9 | 1.1 | .351 | .884 |
22. Baron Davis
9 of 30
Having Blake Griffin on the team is a nice amenity..just throw it up there and watch him slam it down. He would be higher on this list if he was actually in shape.
| 11.7 | 6.6 | 1.2 | .281 | .708 |
21. Mike Bibby
10 of 30
If you could a price on leadership and stability, Bibby would be paid a lot more. He is the rock for the Atlanta Hawks at the point guard position. He falls under the category of he is more valuable to us than he is to you.
| 9.6 | 3.7 | 0.7 | .450 | .651 |
20. Brandon Jennings
11 of 30
Jennings was huge for the Bucks in their playoff run last year. He has been injured but is still one of the best young point guards in the league.
| 16.2 | 5.3 | 1.1 | .362 | .764 |
19. Chauncey Billups
12 of 30
Billups has been part of the contingent of Nuggets that are on the trading block. His value is down, but he is clutch, calm, and if the Nuggets want to trade him, the line will be around the block for his playoff services.
| 16.4 | 5.2 | 1.1 | .446 | .916 |
18. Jameer Nelson
13 of 30
Its hard to put Nelson amongst the league's elite because his role has been reduced since the acquisition of Turkoglu. He is a nice player, but in today's league, he is in the bottom half of point guards.
| 12.5 | 6.5 | 0.8 | .406 | .835 |
17. Tyreke Evans
14 of 30
The Kings need Evans to be better. He is a scoring first guard, which is fine, but the team is not even competitive. If Evans and Cousins cant create a relationship, we will see one of them out of their before you know it.
| 17.8 | 5.5 | 1.8 | .313 | .745 |
16. Andre Miller
15 of 30
Miller gets props for knocking Blake Griffin to the ground for his teammate, but his production has been suspect and the team is in turmoil.
| 13.0 | 7.2 | 1.6 | .111 | .846 |
15. Jrue Holiday
16 of 30
Holiday is very young, and while I think he will be one of the league's best in a few years, he is still a while away. The team is better because of him, and I like his future.
| 14.1 | 6.7 | 1.4 | .364 | .800 |
14. Stephen Curry
17 of 30
Curry has benefited from a fast paced offense that allows him to have the ball on the open floor and make plays. He is a great shooter and seems to be working well with his backcourt mate Monta Ellis.
| 19.1 | 5.9 | 1.9 | .422 | .937 |
13. Mike Conley
18 of 30
The Grizzlies success this year is due to a well rounded group of scorers and rebounders, but it all starts with Conley. He got a nice extension at the beginning of the year and has thrived in his new role.
| 13.4 | 6.8 | 1.7 | .357 | .734 |
12. Jose Caderon
19 of 30
Calderon is a good point guard on a bad team. He will be a nice upgrade for a contending team if the Raptors decide its time to trade him. He is the epitome of a consistent point guard.
| 10.3 | 8.5 | 1.2 | .422 | .806 |
11. Devin Harris
20 of 30
Amid trade rumors, Harris has been good, not great. The Nets never made the jump, but dont count him and the team out of the playoff race yet.
| 15.4 | 7.8 | 1.1 | .300 | .841 |
10. Jason Kidd
21 of 30
At 37, he is still great at creating opportunities for others, and his biggest impact can be seen with the increase in production by Tyson Chandler.
| 8.1 | 8.4 | 1.7 | .335 | .902 |
9. Raymond Felton
22 of 30
Just ask the Bobcats if they would let Felton go if they had to make that decision again. He has been a steady force in the Knick's backcourt all season and will be important come playoff time.
| 17.1 | 8.9 | 1.8 | .331 | .873 |
8. John Wall
23 of 30
The Wizards have been very bad, but the 20 year old has been holding his ground. The rest of the season should be about establishing a report with the rest of the team, and building a sounds core around him.
| 14.7 | 9.3 | 1.8 | .304 | .772 |
7. Tony Parker
24 of 30
Its nice for your resume when your team has the best record in the league. The Spurs lull you to sleep and then knock you out every night. Parker has no problem with that.
| 17.3 | 6.7 | 1.3 | .333 | .785 |
6. Steve Nash
25 of 30
Nash remains the only reason the Suns are still relevant, while he has been winning the fight with father time. A lights out shooter, passer, and leader make him one of the league's best even at age 36.
| 16.8 | 11.1 | 0.7 | .408 | .916 |
5. Chris Paul
26 of 30
As Paul goes, so do the Hornet's. His knee does not seem to be slowing him down, and his impact can be measured in wins and the big smile on David West's face.
| 16.6 | 9.6 | 2.6 | .453 | .904 |
4. Deron Williams
27 of 30
Carlos who? This is Deron William's team now, and the All-Star doesn't want you to forget that. He is keeping the Jazz steady in the thick of Western Conference; look for the Jazz to be there ready to fight the conference's elite.
| 21.9 | 9.4 | 1.2 | .366 | .855 |
3. Russell Westbrook
28 of 30
Can Durant be the league MVP if he isnt even the MVP on his own team? Westbrook has been a rock for a young Thunder team that is one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
| 22.4 | 8.5 | 1.9 | .245 | .851 |
2. Rajon Rondo
29 of 30
Rondo is the leader of a championship contending Celtics team. It use to be all about the "Big 3", but slowly he has taken over as the most talented member of the group and a playmaker that is making everyone better.
| 10.6 | 12.5 | 2.5 | .308 | .516 |
1. Derrick Rose
30 of 30
Rose is an MVP contender and has taken the team on his back in the absence of Jokim Noah. He is explosive and has taken the point guard position to the next level.
| 24.6 | 8.2 | 1.0 | .379 | .824 |
