NBA All-Star Game: Eastern and Western Conference All-Star Teams
So we all know that the starters from both East & West have been announced. Here is my evaluation of the respective starters and educated guesses on who the reserves will be.
Eastern Conference Starters
Center: Dwight Howard—Deservedly so, there's no better center in the NBA then him.
Forward: LeBron James—The man with a thousand names will continue to remain a starter as long as he pulls out victories and keeps on putting up the 25/5/5's.
Forward: Amare Stoudemire—He did a complete 360 with this Knicks team, and they will continue to make the playoffs in the foreseeable future, but I doubt they will get any further with D'Antoni at the helm.
Guard: Dwayne Wade—Yep.
Guard: Derrick Rose—Deservedly so, considering how well he is playing and where he is taking the Bulls.
Eastern Conference Reserves
Center: Andrew Bogut—when he is healthy, he is a terrifying monster
Forward: Paul Pierce—Celtics have the best record so expect a lot of All-Stars representing them.
Forward: Kevin Garnett—See Above.
Guard: Rajon Rondo—See Above.
Guard: Joe Johnson—He is a critical part to their success, and Joe Johnson is rounding out quite nicely after a terrible first couple of months.
Wild: Josh Smith—He deserves to be an All-Star with the do-it-all attitude he brings to the Hawks lineup every night.
Wild: Danny Granger—The East is really bad, and is just so devoid of talent that we have to put in players who otherwise to say would have to business to make the all-star team. But heck they are in the hunt for a playoff spot so why not?
East Head Coach: Doc Rivers—Best team in the Eastern Conference—He is an awesome coach, especially when it comes to scheming defensive sets and assignments. If he doesn't manage the minutes of his starters though, the Celtics can possibly look at more injuries catching up to them later on in the season.
Western Conference Starters
Center: Yao Ming—His press conference should continuously thank his billion+ fans for making the all-star game starters voting process so irrelevant.
Forward: Kevin Durant—He is the leading scorer in the league and he has the Thunder in the middle of the pack in the tough West.
Forward: Carmelo Anthony—His high demands are really crippling the Nuggets, and the their greedy attitude probably cost them the best package they could have had for their All-Star. However, Anthony is a stud and he can fill the stat sheet any given night.
Guard: Kobe Bryant—The best player in the game is showing everyone that he still GOT IT.
Guard: Chris Paul—The 10-game winning streak has the Hornets back in playoff relevancy and has Chris Paul's name back in the MVP debate.
Western Conference Reserves
Center: Pau Gasol—His strong performance in November is padding his numbers for the weak showings in December and January, and considering he played a majority of the games in the center position, he should easily make it.
Forward: Dirk Nowitzki—Really shows how important he is to his team. Lose him and you lose games, keep him healthy and the Mavericks go rock-n-rollin.
Forward: LeMarcus Aldridge—No Roy, no Oden, no problem. Aldridge single-handedly kept the Grizz and the Suns at bay with his superb play, and still has the Blazers holding onto a playoff seed.
Guard: Manu Ginobili—He is the Spurs best player and probably the most clutch player this season. YES, even more so then Kobe.
Guard: Deron Williams—The Jazz goes as far as Williams takes them and improving his numbers even beyond next season definitely gives him a roster spot.
Wild: Tony Parker—He is the best lane penetrator in the league, and don't let his numbers fool you. He is averaging almost 18 and seven in just 31 minutes per game. Along with that, TP is shooting over 50 percent from the field, has improved his three point game and is averaging a career high in steals. Most importantly, the Spurs are the best team in the league with a historic record and that has them deserving at least two All-Stars.
Wild: Kevin Love—Love has a fantastic game, averaging 22/15 each contest, and considering he actually has a decent sidekick in Beasley, I honestly don't know how the Wolves only have 11 wins.
Injury Replacement for Yao: Tim Duncan—I think Stern will make sure Duncan makes the team one way or another. He deserves it. Not only is he playing a career low in minutes, but he has actually improved defensively, as he has gone back to averaging two blocks a game. Again, the Spurs have the best record, so if the Celtics can have three or four All-Stars in this game, the Spurs deserves their big three taking part in this event.
West Head Coach: Greg Popovich—He runs the best team in the league and he does it with all of his players except 2 playing under 30 minutes. Now that's what you call running away.
ALL-STAR SNUBS
Really, I think all the snubs are from the West. The West is so loaded with players who deserve to make the All-Star team, that they can field two proper teams.
Steve Nash (West): Despite Phoenix being in a full rebuilding mode, still wanting to hold on to Nash shows how important he is to their team.
Russell Westbrook (West): The other half of the OKC dynamic duo is one of the best up-and-coming guards in the league, but unless he shoots a better percentage or decides to move to the East, it would be difficult for Westbrook to make the All-Star team in the West.
Monta Ellis (West): He is dropping 26 a game, and if the Warriors were in the East, they would be holding the seventh seed in the playoffs right about now.
Luis Scola (West): Houston plays a well-rounded, feisty team game and that's the reason why they are still hovering around the highly coveted eighth seed in the Western Playoffs. A lot of it has to do with Scola's game: he is an aggressive player and gives it his all every second he steps onto the court.
Blake Griffin (West): If the Clippers had a winning record, Blake would definitely be an All-Star. I just don't know who he would replace.
David West (West): He is putting up 19/8, but in the West...
Zach Randolph (West): He has the Grizzlies playing .500 ball and he is averaging 20/13.
Rudy Gay (West): Quietly dropping 20 a game and has the Grizz playing .500 ball in the West.
Ray Allen (East): He has been a pivotal part of the Celtics record and a lot of their close games resulting in wins were thanks to RayRay's shot.
Carlos Boozer (East): If he wasn't injured, I think he deserves the spot over KG.
Andrea Bargnani (East): ....just in case.
