WWE News: The NXT Report Feb. 2, 2011

Leva LiesFeb 2, 2011

It’s Tuesday night, “the whole world is watching” and it is time for this week’s NXT!

As per usual, “Matthew” Striker starts us off. We are down to four rookies and next week there will be a “crucial” elimination. I call Brodus Clay.

Byron Saxton, Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis head to the ring with their respective pros Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan and R-Truth but Brodus Clay arrives with Ricardo Rodriquez, who explains that Alberto Del Rio cannot be here.

Last week, none of the rookies earned any immunity points so this week, the field is wide open. We will be having an arm wrestling challenge worth three immunity points.

Curtis and Saxton are up first.

First Challenge: Arm Wrestling Contest

In the time it takes me to type that heading, Curtis defeats Saxton. What was that, a second?

Curtis advances

Next we have Bateman and Clay. Bateman encourages his pro Daniel Bryan to slap him repeatedly and he does. Unfortunately, he loses.

Clay advances

The final is Johnny Curtis vs Brodus Clay. The two men have had some problems before, which began with Clay tossing R-Truth’s rookie Johnny Curtis into the announce table.

The two men battle it out briefly, but Clay gets himself disqualified by head butting Curtis.  Johnny Curtis wins the three immunity points!

Winner: Johnny Curtis

Next up, Byron Saxton going up against his former pro Chris Masters.

First Match: Byron Saxton vs. Chris Masters

The two men lock up and Saxton gets led to the corner. Byron pulls off some aggressive offense after tossing Masters into the corner instead but Masters quickly gains control again.

Byron and his fancy red tights gain the upper hand and begin working on Masters’ shoulder. Chris then powers out of the maneuver and tosses Saxton face first onto the floor.

Watching this match and thinking about the 2006 Chris Masters really makes me amazed about how much he’s improved. He’s not amazing yet, but it looks like he’s been working on getting there.

Masters gets the Masterlock er… locked in and wins the match.

Winner: Chris Masters

Decent match, only a few minutes long but it put Masters over quite a bit. If the rumors about the big push lined up for him are true, this win makes sense.

We cut to the back and US Champion Daniel Bryan is being head locked by his rookie, Derrick Bateman.

It looks like the pair are continuing their  “SUBMISSION WRESTLING!” journey. Which, by the way, should be their tag team name if Bateman wins.

Bateman breaks the hold and begins worrying about how not-strong he is. While Bryan attempts to re-assure him, Bryan’s girlfriend, the lovely Gail Kim, appears. Bateman looks away, annoyed.

Bryan tells Bateman how strong Gail is and she claims she can show him a thing or two. Bateman thinks chicks don’t know anything about submission wrestling and every feminist watching is eager to see her choke him the hell out as she puts him into a headlock.

Bateman passes out on the floor and Bryan and Gail stand above him making out. Bateman and his creepy ways looks up and begins nodding with a grin on his face.

Good segment, better than some of the ones we see on Raw. Bateman and Bryan work well together and I must say, I enjoy having Gail in the mix more than I did the Bella Twins. It’s just great to see her involved in something.

Next is Brodus Clay versus his former pro Ted DiBiase Jr., who got slapped by his girlfriend and then punched in the mouth by Jerry Lawler on Raw this week. Not too great, huh?

We are shown a recap of the rookie battle royal last week in which Brodus dumped his pro Ted DiBiase for Alberto Del Rio.

2nd Match: Ted DiBiase Jr. vs. Brodus Clay

Ted heads to the ring alone, but once he gets inside, Maryse appears and comes down the ramp too. She heads to the announce desk, showing Josh Matthews a very expensive watch. She looks towards the ring whilst doing it, as if trying to distract DiBiase.

Maryse’s antics outside the ring (which involves giving Todd Grisham her phone number) is making it very hard to pay attention to the action going on inside the ring, which has just spilled outside.

The two men get back inside the ring and Brodus gives his former pro a vicious belly to belly suplex. Maryse looks very unimpressed as Clay beats the living hell out of her (supposedly) ex-boyfriend.

Maryse continues being hilarious and takes a photograph of DiBiase getting beat down, before leaning against the ring and taking a picture of herself. Why can’t all the Divas have this much personality?

DiBiase’s downfall comes when he is distracted by Maryse mock-kissing Todd Grisham and Clay hits a big slam. Maryse walks away, smirking, while Brodus and Ricardo celebrate in the ring.

Poor Teddy.

Winner: Brodus Clay
