North Carolina Tar Heel All-Time Starting Five Basketball Team
Have you ever daydreamed of your college's All-Time starting five? Well, I have! Luckily, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is fun to pick the greatest starting five from your favorite college or university. Here is my starting top five, and I would want Dean Smith to coach them!
Point Guard: Phil Ford
Even though the Heels have had some great point guards, Kenny "The Jet" Smith, Jimmy Black, Raymond Felton, Ty Lawson, Derrick Phelps, King Rice, this one is easy....Phil Ford is still the standard for all time point guard of the Tar Heels. Winner of the John Wooden Award for the nation's top player, Ford was pure magic. From Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he is the second greatest basketball player to ever come out of North Carolina. Made Dean invent the "4 Corners"!

Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
Shooting Guard: Walter Davis
Tough position to call! "Sweet D" as he was known, has to go down as the greatest "2" guard in Tar Heel lore. The shot he hit to beat Duke in "The Great Comeback" is the second greatest shot ever hit in Tar Heel history. Al Wood, Charlie Scott, Lenny Rosenbluth, Joseph Forte, Rashad McCants and Jeff Lebo all deserve honorable mention.
Swing Guard: Michael Jordan
Simply the greatest basketball player of all time from UNC, and the great North State. His shot to beat Georgetown to win the National Championship for Dean, is the greatest shot in Tar Heel history. Dudley Bradley gets honorable mention for his defensive tenacity.
Power Forward: James Worthy
James is the third greatest player to come out of North Carolina. A Gastonia native, he simply put the Tar Heels on his back in the 1982 Championship. "Big Game James" went on to be an NBA Hall of Famer. Hard to leave Tyler Hansborough UNC's All-Time leading scorer off this team! His toughness makes this the most difficult pick of all. Antawn Jamison, a Charlotte native, makes this a very deep position tradition! George Lynch and Mike O'Koren deserve honorable mention.
Center: Brad Daughtery
Another tough call. Sam Perkins, Mitch Kupchak, and Brendan Haywood all deserve considerable mention, but "Bad Brad" was simply the best. Out of Black Mountain, N.C. , Brad makes this team not only full of great Tar Heel players, but all native Tar Heels as well.
I would love to hear your comments & tell me about your schools "All-Time 5 !!!!
