2011 NFL Trade Rumors: Which Perennial Pro Bowlers Need a Change in Scenery?
As players around the NFL watched the Steelers and Packers beam with happiness as their teams go to the Super Bowl, 30 other teams are left wondering what could have been.
But they are also wondering what will happen to avoid this feeling next season.
Few teams are able to reach the big game, and veterans begin to wonder if their biological clock is ticking away without the chance to hoist the Lombardi trophy.
It may be a lack of touches, a disagreement in the philosophy of the offense/defense or even a lack of confidence in their teammates.
We enter the 2011 offseason with plenty of disgruntled NFL stars. Here are 10 that need a new team.
10. Sidney Rice
1 of 10
After a great season of 1,312 yards and eight TDs in 2009, Rice was hurt for the majority of 2010.
He has great big play ability, as evidenced by his 16.2 yards per catch the past two seasons.
With the comical QB situation in Minnesota—why would Rice want to come back?
He is a free agent and should be looking for a team with some sort of idea who the QB will be.
9. Michael Bush
2 of 10
Another free agent that needs to find himself in a better situation.
Darren McFadden had a great season for the Raiders and really hogged the majority of the touches.
Bush received the bulk of the load in four games this season and put up 104, 47, 95, and 137 yards.
He clearly has the talent and needs to find a team that needs a full-time runner.
He may not have a Pro Bowl appearance yet, but he certainly has the ability to, and a new team could be what he needs to achieve that goal.
8. Chad Ochocinco
3 of 10
He has been the best receiver for the Bengals for almost 10 years. All good things come to an end, and the Bengals need a divorce.
His act has grown old to fans in Cincinnati, and his production has begun to slip as well.
Chad sees the writing on the wall and knows that it is almost impossible to win a Super Bowl with the current way the Bengals owner Mike Brown runs his team.
He may no longer be a No. 1 receiver, but can be a big help for a team looking for a second fiddle.
7. Kevin Kolb
4 of 10
This has been pretty obvious since Week 1.
The Eagles are clearly Michael Vick’s team now, and Kolb still hasn’t had a chance to prove he can play QB at the NFL level.
How frustrating is it to spend an entire offseason preparing to be the face of a franchise…only to lose it in the first week of the season? Kolb needs a fresh start.
There are plenty of teams that could use a QB and would be willingly to take a flier on Kolb. It will be interesting to see which team can give Philly the most appealing deal.
6. Champ Bailey
5 of 10
He isn’t getting any younger, and the Broncos are in total rebuilding mode right now. Bailey doesn’t have the time to allow Tim Tebow to go through the bumps and bruises of being a QB in the NFL.
Bailey wants to go to a team that can win now.
He is still one of the top corner-backs in the league and is a coveted free agent.
He will have plenty of options available to him, and while he claims he still loves the Broncos, expect him to pick a new team for 2011.
5. Ahmad Bradshaw
6 of 10
One of the top free agent running backs should have plenty of suitors.
Bradshaw has a rare combination of power and speed that is very appealing. However, fumbling was a big concern, as he lost the ball seven times this season.
With the Giants, he lost touches to Brandon Jacobs and could be the featured back for a variety of other teams.
4. Logan Mankins
7 of 10
He is one of the best guards in the game.
Mankins was an All Pro in 2007 and has been to Hawaii multiple times protecting Tom Brady in New England.
This season, he held out for a large portion of the season because of contract issues with the Patriots.
He finally settled for the low ball deal and came off as the loser in that battle. He needs a new start, and there will be plenty of teams that would love to scoop him up.
It will be expensive, but Mankins still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
3. Vincent Jackson
8 of 10
The poster boy for why holding out is a bad idea, Jackson basically blew his entire 2010 season.
He wanted a new contract, and the Chargers refused to give it to him. Jackson ended up accepting a terrible one year offer and got hurt in his first series back.
Jackson ended up playing in four games and only had over 54 yards once. But he is still a top receiver who will be really fresh next season.
2. Carson Palmer
9 of 10
It looks as if the Bengals QB has finally given up on his franchise.
Palmer has recently requested a trade and threatened to retire if he doesn't get what he wants.
Much like Ochocinco, Palmer is fed up with the lack of change in a team that went a massively disappointing 4-12.
The hometown fans have turned on him, and he may be without T.O., Cedric Benson and Chad next season.
Time to move on and show the rest of the league he has something left in the tank.
1. Donovan McNabb
10 of 10
McNabb had a nightmarish inaugural season in D.C. His numbers were down, and he was benched in favor of "Sexy" Rex Grossman.
The relationship between McNabb and coach Mike Shanahan seems to have soured to he point of no return.
The controversy surrounding the two in a late season game against the Lions was weird and insulting to McNabb. Shanahan questioned his ability to run a two minute offense and his conditioning.
McNabb stuck up for the disgruntled Albert Haynesworth, which didn't sit well with most of the Redskins organization.
Oh and the 'Skins went 6-10.
Trading for McNabb was a huge mistake, and both sides need to hit the reset button.
