NFL Trade Scenarios: 10 Blockbuster Trades That Could Change Everything
Despite the lack of a collective bargaining agreement, there still are a lot of players speculated to be traded once there is.
While the lack of a new CBA has dampened the usual trade talk that starts popping up this time of year, there still are a handful of guys who pretty much have forced their way into the conversation through word, deed or circumstance.
Here are 10 players who probably will be wearing new uniforms next year once the wheeling and dealing resumes in the NFL.
10. Martellus Bennett
1 of 10
With Jason Witten the starting tight end in Dallas without question, Martellus Bennett doesn't get the playing time he craves.
You can debate his performance, but he's still better than what is on some other teams out there.
Bennett's contract expires after the 2011 season, so it would make sense for Jerry Jones to move him as soon as he can and get something in return.
Sending him to a team like the Chargers would be a great idea as it would probably give the Cowboys a draft pick in return, and the Chargers would have another option at that position.
9. Dez Bryant
2 of 10
This rumor popped up this week, and a Dez Bryant trade would shake the whole NFL world.
It's impossible to speculate which team would make that call for Bryant's services but take your pick of about a dozen teams who need wide receiver help and would be willing to give up a first-round pick, preferably in the Top 15.
I take that back; it isn't impossible. Al Davis would make that move in a hearbeat, if his heart still was beating and hadn't been replaced by an energy crystal.
8. Chad Ochocinco
3 of 10
Chad Ochocinco's time in Cincannati may be over. The Bengals may not want to pay him anymore, and he hasn't really gotten along with Marvin Lewis lately.
The Patriots have a very real need for a deep threat, and they have a ton of draft picks with which to barter with.
Ochocinco to the Patriots isn't the strangest thing you'll hear, so leave it open as a possibility. Bill Belichick really wants that fourth Super Bowl.
7. Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers)
4 of 10
Steve Smith has indicated he wants out of Carolina. With all the changes that are going on, the Panthers may oblige him.
Cleveland or Denver would be two possibilities. The Browns need a good wide receiver and so do the Broncos.
Fox already has coached Smith for a few years, so if he's open to doing it again, there could be a deal there.
6. Albert Haynesworth
5 of 10
Albert Haynesworth will be hoping to find a new home in 2011 with someone who will love him, cuddle him and kiss his feet, because if you don't, little Albert won't play.
The only three possibilities here are back to Tennessee, to Detroit because of Jim Schwartz or to the Eagles because they just hired former Titans line coach Jim Washburn.
It's probable one of those three teams will take him, but after his shenanigans this past year, he's on his last chance in the NFL.
5. Kyle Orton
6 of 10
Kyle Orton may be the odd man out in Denver if the Broncos front office and new head coach John Fox decide Tim Tebow is the guy to go with.
Orton could find a home in San Francisco, Tennessee or Miami. They're all viable options at this point.
4. Tim Tebow
7 of 10
On the other hand, the Broncos may decide Tim Tebow is just another mistake Josh McDaniels made and try and dump him while his value still is relatively high.
The problem is the Broncos overpaid for Tebow; McDaniels literally was the only coach who thought he really was a first-round talent.
That doesn't mean he wasn't going to go in the second round, but that's the kind of trade you can expect to get at this point—no higher than a second-rounder or maybe a lower pick and some players.
Tebow could find a home as a backup somewhere else as well, but Miami or Jacksonville would be the only teams interested in trading for him—especially Jacksonville. David Garrard doesn't look to be in their future plans, and Tebow would instantly sell out the stadium next year.
3. Vince Young
8 of 10
Let's be honest here. Vince Young is being traded because he's too emotionally unstable to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
If he was stable enough, the injuries wouldn't matter, and he'd be coming back next year.
Young has little value right now because of his emotional instability and the fact the Titans have publicly stated they no longer have any interest in keeping him on the roster.
He could go to Miami, who are so desperate for a quarterback they could take a chance on him.
2. Kevin Kolb
9 of 10
Kevin Kolb has issues. Those issues are he's a good quarterback on a team that has two good quarterbacks.
However, the guy ahead of him, Michael Vick, has a playing style that makes him injury-prone, and Vick was injured twice in the 2010 campaign.
That means the Eagles will be reluctant to let him go, and it will take an offer they can't refuse to do it.
That being said, everyone has their price. Don't be surprised if there's some kind of three-way team trade involving Kolb, possibly to the 49ers.
1. Donovan McNabb
10 of 10
The ugly divorce between Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins will linger on until there's a new CBA.
The Vikings are being touted as the most likely destination so they can have a veteran quarterback lead the team while Joe Webb or another rookie is developed.
It's the best ending McNabb can hope for at this point.
