NFL Rumors: Could Marty Mornhinweg Be Headed To The Cleveland Browns?
Marty Mornhinweg could be on the move again, this time out of Philadelphia and over to Cleveland in another head coaching gig. Mornhinweg has done such a great job with the Eagles' offense this year that his name has already come up in rumors. Though the Eagles' season is still going on, this speculation is hard to ignore and could come to light at season's end.
This wouldn't be a surprising move, as Eric Mangini was just relieved from his duties this afternoon. The logical move would be to promote in-house and build, seeing how team president Mike Holmgren has been a great head coach in the past. According to Holmgren, though, he will be looking for other options to fill the position this offseason. Mornhinweg is definitely one of those options.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
SI.com's Peter King expects that the Browns will "strongly consider" Mornhinweg as Head Coach in 2011. For them not to pursue the Eagles' offensive coordinator would be quite foolish. Mornhinweg has orchestrated the most explosive offense in the NFL all season and has Michael Vick playing at the best level in his career.
As long as Mornhinweg doesn't start deferring kickoffs in overtime again, this could work. He did this in Detroit in his last head coaching job and was nailed to the cross for it, and rightfully so.
Under Mornhinweg's guidance, quarterback Colt McCoy will be able to learn a great deal. More importantly, the Browns should grow more rapidly and maybe even rise up again. Offensively, he's been very successful at calling plays in Philadelphia. Mornhinweg may have too much of a one-track mind to fix this team, though, as the Browns need work defensively, too.
For both sides, this move could work. This team has a lot of room to grow but just needs the proper personnel in place. With Holmgren still at the helm, they have the opportunity to make noise in the very near future.
Assuming Mornhinweg's offense succeeds in the playoffs, it could be a big payday for him this off-season. If or when he does get paid, he can thank Vick and company in Philadelphia for their execution on the field through his own playcalling. Also, he ought to thank Andy Reid, of whom he's been a disciple during the past handful of seasons.
Reid-Holmgren-Mornhinweg. It just makes sense right now.
