Tomas Berdych will face world No. 1 player Rafael Nadal, in a rematch of the Wimbledon final, for the semifinals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi beginning December 31, 2010. He beat 10-pounds-lighter Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to meet with Nadal, who received a bye into the exhibition along with Federer, in the semifinal match.

After some hype about his weight loss, which put some expectations on him, Baghdatis remained positive, reminding us that, “This is my first match in two months and to play a top player is not easy. But, I am pretty happy with my performance, playing good tennis, moving well on court. There were some moments in the match that I played well.” Berdych consistently stayed in the match and took advantage of Baghdatis’ errors even though he lost the second set and struggled with the third.

Berdych looks forward to his match tomorrow, saying, “It is just the perfect start by playing matches like this one and then the next day to play the number one player in the world.”

Meeting up with Roger Federer in the semifinal will be Robin Soderling, who beat Jo- Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
