Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants and a Modern Day Meadowland Miracle
With fourteen seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s NFC East show-down, wide receiver DeSean Jackson saved his very best trick for last as he returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown.
DeSean ran almost the entire length of the goal line before making his way into the endzone saying “I didn’t want to leave any time on the clock”.
I waited for a flag to appear, not because there was a reason for one but because that’s just the luck the Eagles have had in 2010. To my surprise there wasn’t a single flag on the field, my jaw hit the floor, and I looked at my brother-in-law and asked if that really just happened.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
It really did, and just like that the Eagles advance to 10-4 on the season and are once again at the top of the chain in the NFC East!
I think it goes without saying that toady’s giant win was a complete team effort, a beautiful effort on everyone’s part, but what could easily be overlooked is the fact that today’s win proves the Eagles are the most complete team possibly in the NFL.
They have the ability to put quick points on the board as they’ve done many times this season, they can end games on the ground as they did against Dallas, and they can come back from being down 21 points late in a game and win—at a division rivals house!
Quarterback Michael Vick and the Eagles offense couldn’t get anything going during the first half of the game. I’ve done the calculations and from all the yards gained, yards lost on sacks, the Eagles managed a whooping 59 yards on 24 plays.
Defensively the Eagles looked just as bad allowing the New York Giants to go up 24-3 at the conclusion of the half!
It wasn’t until the third series in the third quarter that the Eagles registered their first touchdown on the day hitting a wide open Jeremy Maclin for eight yards. On the sixth series of the quarter QB Michael Vick spotted tight end Brent Celek and hit him on a deep middle pass for a 65 yard touchdown.
For those keeping tabs the score is now 17-31 Giants.
Did anyone see what was coming next? The Eagles lined up as if they were going to kickoff the ball deep however David Akers produced a perfect on side kick which rookie WR Riley Cooper recovered on the Eagles 43 yard line.
Five plays later and a four yard Michael Vick scamper into the endzone and the Eagles are clawing their way out of a deficit and are now down just one touchdown—24 – 31!
On the drive that tied the game, the Eagles ran eight plays down the field before receiver Jeremy Maclin notched his second touchdown of the day on a 13 yard pass from quarterback Michael Vick. In just a single quarter the Philadelphia Eagles went from being down 24 points to being back to ground zero tied up.
Which brings us right back to 14 seconds and DeSean Jackson’s fumbling touchdown kickoff return.
Before DeSean even scored, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was on the field questioning punter Matt Dodge as to why he kicked the ball to Jackson rather than out of bounds like he was instructed to do. We’ll just call him Lucy from now on cause he’s gonna have some splainin to do!
