College Basketball Rankings: Quick Rundown of Top 25
College basketball rankings are analyzed, discussed and debated from the preseason through March madness and rightfully so. Here is a rundown of the latest AP Top 25 NCAA College Basketball Rankings:
-
Duke (10-0): Despite freshman sensation Kyrie Irving's injury, the Blue Devils remain the top team in the land and could continue their run with Nolan Smith taking over the point guard duties in Irving's absence.
-
Ohio State (8-0): One of many other undefeated teams left, the Buckeyes look to freshman forward Jared Sullinger to continue his 18 points per game average as the schedule gets tougher with Michigan State, Purdue and Illinois in succession next week.
-
Kansas (9-0): The Jayhawks have cruised through the easy portion of their schedule.
-
Connecticut (8-0): Behind Kemba Walker's impressive 28 points per game, the Huskies are surprisingly the team to beat in the Big East at this point.
-
Syracuse (10-0): A big win over 14th-ranked Michigan State has the Orange in the Top 5.
-
Kansas State (9-1): With its lone loss coming to top-ranked Duke, the Wildcats have defeated two ranked teams heading into bouts with Florida and UNLV.
-
Tennessee (7-0): The Vols have already knocked off two of the Big East's top teams in Villanova and Pittsburgh.
-

Pittsburgh (10-1): The Panthers' only loss came to Tennessee. Wins over Maryland and Texas keep Pitt in the Top 10.
-
Baylor (6-0): The Bears are untested but have handled their early schedule with ease.
-
Villanova (8-1): The loss to Tennessee should prepare the Wildcats well for the rigors of the Big East.
-
San Diego State (11-0): The Aztecs are 11-0 for the first time in school history with one of those wins coming against then 12th-ranked Gonzaga.
-
Illinois (10-1): Ahead of their tough Big 10 slate, the Illini used their non-conference schedule to log wins over Maryland, North Carolina and Gonzaga.
-
Missouri (8-1): The Tigers remain two spots ahead of Georgetown despite falling to the Hoyas Nov. 30. They'll take on 12th-ranked Illinois next week.
-
Michigan State (7-3): The Spartans remain tough despite losses to UConn, Duke and Syracuse. Upcoming games against Texas and Minnesota should tell us more about this year's Spartans.
-
Georgetown (9-1): The Hoyas have handled the first portion of the season with relative ease and logged a win over then eighth ranked Missouri in overtime. Memphis and Notre Dame are up next.
-
Brigham Young (10-0): Unbeaten, the Cougars have recorded wins over South Florida, Saint Mary and Arizona. League bouts with UNLV and San Diego State will decide BYU's fate.
-

Kentucky (7-2): So much for a rebuilding year. The Wildcats have wins over Washington and Notre Dame.
-
Memphis (7-1): The Tigers get a chance at redemption following last week's loss to Kansas with Georgetown coming to town next week.
-
Purdue (9-1): Ahead of Big 10 play, the Boilermakers have played well against stiff competition. A loss to Richmond is the lone blemish.
-
Louisville (8-0): Fresh off a win over UNLV, the Cardinals hope to gain momentum heading into Big East play with a win over Kentucky on New Year's Eve.
-
Minnesota (9-1): The Gophers knocked off then eighth ranked UNC but fell to Virginia, suffering their first and only loss of the season.
-
UNLV (9-1): A solid early-season win over Wisconsin keeps the Rebels in the Top 25 despite a loss last week to Louisville. The Mountain West should be competitive this year with San Diego State and Brigham Young also in the Top 25.
-
Texas (7-2): The Longhorns fell to USC in early December, but a win over Illinois and a two-point loss to Pittsburgh proves they're a contender in the Big 12.
-
Notre Dame (9-1): A loss to 17th ranked Kentucky is the only loss on the schedule for the Irish, who open up Big East play next week against Georgetown.
-
Texas A&M (9-1): The Aggies lost to Boston College but have since defeated Temple and Washington to remain in the Top 25.
