NBA Trade Rumors: 5 Reasons Why Carmelo Anthony Would Fit the New York Knicks
Carmelo Anthony is among the game's top scorers and high-flyers. For the past seven seasons, he's been the Denver Nuggets' top guy. That will most likely be changing very soon as Anthony's likely to be traded. The New York Knicks are his preferred choice, yet Melo claims he's open to other options now too.
Ultimately though, a move to "The Big Apple" seems inevitable. With the Nuggets becoming increasingly fed up with Anthony, a move would benefit both parties. Anthony's averaging about 23 points per game as Denver's leading scorer. Regardless, matters have worsened between him and Denver and the time to move him is now.
The Knicks, for the first time in a while, aren't all that bad. Amar'e Stoudemire has proven to be just what the Knicks have needed. They certainly got it right by reuniting Stoudemire and Mike D'Antonio. Bringing Anthony to the Garden Party could be vital. Their ability to push the tempo would suit a player of Melo's caliber well.
Here are five ways that Melo would work with the Knicks.
5. A Return Home For Carmelo

Carmelo Anthony is a New Yorker by birth and nature. He starred at Syracuse in college and then jumped immediately to the NBA after his stellar freshman year. A return home might be what Anthony needs right now. Not to mention that he was born in Brooklyn, New York.
Anthony is no stranger to New York's offerings and has to miss the spotlight since he's in Denver. It may take three or four players to acquire Anthony, but it's something that Donnie Walsh wouldn't regret in the least.
4. Mike D'Antoni's Offense

Mike D'Antoni's system is working in New York. The Run n Gun fast-paced offense has done wonders for the Knicks so far this season. In many ways, D'Antoni's offense is the reason why the Knicks are off to a 16-9 start. For the first time in years they might be a threat in the East.
Carmelo Anthony would fit in well and have a field day running this offense with Amar'e Stoudemire. Currently, the Knicks have won eight straight, which indicates that now might not be the best time for a change. But a change in the form of an elite player (Anthony) could put them over the top and keep them as contenders all season.
Anthony is better suited for the pace that this offense presents than George Karl's in Denver. His career could really take off and he may elevate his game. This offense has helped many others succeed in the past.
3. Amar'e Stoudemire

Amar'e Stoudemire is one of the best big men in the game today. In New York, he's been the focal point and it's worked well for him and the Knicks. Averaging about 26 points per game and nine rebounds, Stoudemire's making a case for MVP in the early going.
A pairing of Stoudemire and Anthony could put the Knicks over the top. In having two guys that average around 25+ points per game, they'd complement one another perfectly. Stoudemire wouldn't be the lone reason for Melo to want to become a Knick though. There's a ton of special young talent on this team that is gelling perfectly right now.
2. The Glitz and Glammer of New York City

Carmelo Anthony is often lost out in Denver. Players of his caliber need to be in media hotbeds like New York, Los Angeles, etc. Why not? Anthony is one of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA and the New York spotlight is just what he needs at this point.
The Nuggets aren't going anywhere fast out West, but in the East, the Knicks might surprise some people. If they're able to acquire Anthony, they might not be far that far from the top.
Times Square hasn't applauded the Knicks much in recent years. They haven't enjoyed a winning season since 2000-01, though they did make the playoffs in 2003-04. Anthony would relish in the opportunity to play in New York.
1. Attracting Other Stars To New York

If the Knicks get Carmelo Anthony, this opens up their future for them a lot. Having the New York spotlight, a fast-paced offense and also Stoudemire/Anthony would make the Knicks attractive to all prospective free-agent. For the first time in a while, the Knicks would be "the place to play" in the NBA.
The Knicks are already a team on the rise, Anthony would only strengthen their drive to the top of the East. With the Eastern Conference wide-open, the Knicks are already surprising and could shoot to the moon with Anthony in the mix.
With the NBA Free-Agency Market in the summer, the Knicks could be throwing some money towards more top talent.
