Fantasy Basketball Week 7: Four Players To Target When Scanning the Waiver Wire

Robbie DonoghueDec 9, 2010

Here are four players still available in the majority of fantasy leagues to target on the waiver wire this week.

George Hill (PG/SG – San Antonio Spurs)

Hill has been a nice spark off the Spurs’ bench this season and ranks fifth on the team in minutes played per game. Over his last seven games, Hill has averaged 15.3 points, 2.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Hill’s fantasy stock is benefited by his two-position eligibility, but better three-point shooting, assists and rebounding numbers would make Hill a more appealing option.

Jerryd Bayless (PG/SG – Toronto Raptors)

Bayless, who’s available in almost all fantasy leagues, has seen an increase in playing time and production since being traded to Toronto in November. The third-year point guard is gaining confidence on the court for the Raptors, averaging 12.8 points, 4.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 three-pointers in 22.8 minutes per game over his last four games.

Bayless is still behind Jose Calderon on the depth chart, but Toronto needs someone to fill the void after losing combo guard Jarret Jack and Bayless appears to be that guy.

Jodie Meeks (SG – Philadelphia 76ers)

Meeks has replaced a struggling Evan Turner in the 76ers’ starting lineup and has made the most of his opportunity thus far. Meeks has started the last three games for Philadelphia and averaged 17 points in 28.3 minutes per game. The second-year shooting guard has gone 13-32 (41 percent) on three-pointers over that span.

Meeks looks to be a nice pickup for owners looking for points and three-pointers, but he doesn’t provide much help in any other categories. He’s combined for a total of just three rebounds, two assists and one steal over those three starts and will need better production in those categories to become a universally owned fantasy player.

Jonny Flynn (PG – Minnesota Timberwolves)

Flynn has missed the entire season due to a hip injury but is set to join Minnesota’s lineup next week. Sebastian Telfair and Luke Rindour have played well in his absence, but Flynn is the future for the Timberwolves (unless Ricky Rubio ever decides to leave Europe) and he should see close to 28 minutes per game once he’s healthy.

He’s available in many leagues due to the injury and is a nice pickup for owners needing point guard help. With Kevin Love and Michael Beasley playing some great basketball, Flynn should be able to get more than the 4.4 assists he averaged last year while still scoring between 12 and 15 points on most nights.
