Rod Barajas Receives 550 Percent Increase in Salary
Prince once said, “Let’s party like it’s 1999.” Major League GMs are saying, “Let’s spend like it’s 1999.”
It’s no secret that spending is back up in baseball this offseason. After two offseasons where quality players could be scooped up at bargain basement prices, this offseasonham n’ eggers like Rod Barajas are getting significant raises.
Barajas re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, and received a one-year, $3.25 million contract. What? While this might not seem like a lot for the average baseball player, keep in mind that Barajas made $500,000 with the New York Mets and Dodgers last season.

That’s a 550 percent increase in salary from last year for Barajas.
Barajas is represented by Dan Lozano. How fast do you think he had Barajas sign this contract? Five seconds? Ten seconds?
Barajas is your classic journeyman catcher. He has played 13 years in the Major Leagues with six different teams and has a career hitting line of .239/.284/.412. That isn’t good by anyone’s standards, but for some reason Dodger GM Ned Colletti felt compelled to give Barajas the biggest yearly contract of his career.
My only explanation is that Colletti was blinded by Barajas’ .297/.361/.578 hitting line in 25 games with the Dodgers last season. That’s the only reason I can give for the reason why Colletti would give Barajas this much money.
That, or Barajas has some incriminating photos of Colletti.
