LeBron James Spends the Night Scoring, Cleveland Fans Spend the Night Crying

Danny FlynnDec 2, 2010

Reggie Miller spoke the night’s five truest words midway through the third quarter of tonight’s LeBron James Cleveland homecoming, when the former Pacer simply uttered, “Time to get over it.”

That about sums it up Cleveland. It’s time to get over it. No more crying, pity seeking or whining.

Just get over it.

LeBron is gone. He’s moved on to greener pastures and no amount of booing, marginally creative t-shirts or evil eyes are going to bring him back.

Miller would go on to make the comparison that many analysts and media members brought up leading in tonight’s Heat-Cavs matchup, which Miami ended up completely dominating 118-90. He called the Cavs fans jilted lovers, the jealous ex-girlfriends in this whole strange breakup.

It was an analogy that coudn’t have better described the actions of the fans during the night.

James returned to Cleveland with a new, prettier girlfriend and the fans let him hear all about it. Heckling, chants, boos, signs, t-shirts—they all tried their hardest to let him know how angry they were with the breakup.

And what did LeBron do about it?

He smiled, threw talcum powder right in their faces and dazzled like only he could do in an environment like that, hanging a season high 38 points on his former team.

I guess the Quitness t-shirts didn’t work.

You could have taken the high road Cleveland.

You could have said, "Alright LeBron’s gone, screw him, we’ll move on." Or you could have did what you did, go overboard and look silly in the process.

Sure, it was OK to be upset about this whole ordeal during the summer, considering the way LeBron handled everything, but at some point you just have to say, "Alright, whatever."

There’s more important things in life than spending your time hating one single man, who has already made it perfectly clear he no longer wants anything to do with you.

LeBron probably felt flattered he could have such a major effect on the single psyche of an entire city.

Sometimes you need to have some gratitude and respect for what a person has given you in the past, and the seven great years LeBron gave to the city of Cleveland is not worthy of the kind of treatment he received tonight.

LeBron gave the Cavs franchise all he could and helped to provide the city with a level of sporting excitement that it really had never seen before.

You witnessed his greatness, watched him grow up before your eyes, enjoyed all the dunks and game winning shots over the years. It’s sad that the run had to end the way it did, but the fact is, what’s done is done. Time to move on.

After this game, you can bet that LeBron and the Heat are ready to move on. This is the type of performance that could serve as a propellant and boost to the the rest of their season.

It's time you do the same Cleveland.

Time to get over it.
