Jose Reyes Trade Rumors: Where Could Mets Shortstop Get Traded?
New York Mets SS Jose Reyes has fallen on hard times the last two years thanks to the injury bug. When he has been healthy he has been one of the best top-of-the-order producers in all of MLB. He is still young at 27 years old and has some of that electrifying speed that made him one of the top basestealers in baseball from 2005-2008. The Mets have made it clear they don't necessarily want to move Reyes but if the right deal came along they wouldn't turn it down. Here are 5 teams that Jose Reyes could go to and make an impact with.
Atlanta Braves

The Braves traded for Alex Gonzalez last year but he is not a long term solution at the position. The addition of Reyes at the top of the lineup would make the Braves one of the most dangerous teams in the NL with Jason Heyward, Brian McCann, and newly acquired Dan Uggla. The Braves have the talent in their system to make the deal, too.
San Francisco Giants

The Giants lineup was awful last year. They were able to win the World Series in spite of the lineup that Bruce Bochy put out there every game, with the exception of Buster Posey who is a star. The Giants declined the option on Edgar Renteria and need a SS. They signed Miguel Tejada but at this point in his career he is a 3B, not a SS. The Giants system is pretty depleted at the upper levels save for a guy like Brandon Belt in triple-A, so it would take some maneuvering on Brian Sabean's part to pull off a deal for Reyes.
Minnesota Twins

The Twins should focus on their starting pitching so they can finally get over the gigantic hump that is the New York Yankees. However, Reyes would make a good addition to the Twins in their spacious new park where he can use his speed to turn singles into doubles and doubles into triples. The question would be how much more can the Twins add in payroll and do they have enough talent to give up what the Mets would want, which is apparently something along the lines of what the Twins were asking for Johan Santana.
Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have internal options at SS in Jed Lowrie and Jose Iglesias. However, if they don't feel that either guy is ready to handle the position full-time they can look at Reyes. The Mets would almost assuredly ask for pitching prospect Casey Kelly, whom the Red Sox have basically said is untouchable. However, for the right player no one is untouchable.
New York Yankees

Think about this situation: If Jeter leaves New York, who plays SS for the Bronx bombers? They will want to make a splash to help ease the pain of losing their most popular. The New York Yankees could trade for the other New York SS. Why not? He is young, relatively inexpensive. If he shows that he can stay healthy he would be better for the Yankees right now than Derek Jeter, who is an awful SS (sorry Yankee fans, but it's true).
