NBA Power Rankings: Landry Fields and Other Surprise Breakout Rookies in 2010-11
Every year, there are rookies (like Landry Fields) that seem to surprise the NBA fans all around the league. Some dazzle right away, and some do the little things that make you appreciate them more and more over time.
They are usually drafted pretty late and are later viewed as steals.
This list will give those guys their due, and some of them you might not have even heard of yet, but trust me these guys have talent!
Let's begin!
5. Jeff Adrien
1 of 5
Draft Details: Undrafted, 2009—Went overseas and came back
Key Stats: 12.5 MPG—3PPG—3.8RPG
He was determined to play in the NBA and now he has his wish. He is a very consistent guy, and if he had more minutes and more touches, would be even better.
Golden State is not the perfect place to get touches at the moment, but maybe later down the road he will find himself in a position where he can truly showcase his abilities.
4. Armon Johnson
2 of 5
Draft details: Second round, 34th pick 2010 Draft
Key Stats: 11MPG—4.4PPG—48%FG
This guy has come out of nowhere to be a pretty solid contributor for the Blazers, especially considering the amount of minutes he gets.
He is the kind of guy that only gets out for a little while, but gives a spark to the team nonetheless. However, it does not end there, and if he got more touches (like most good rookies) his stats would be even better.
That can be traced back to many coaches not putting enough trust in their rookies which is understandable, but this rookie is clearly different.
3. Gary Neal
3 of 5
Draft Details: Undrafted, 2007, Came back from overseas
Key Stats: 14.8 MPG—6.2PPG—2.2RPG
While his stats aren't that impressive, that is expected, seeing as how he plays for one of the top teams in the league.
His minutes are reasonable, but he does not get many touches and when he does, he is rarely meant to score the ball.
The potential is there for improvement.
2. Garry Forbes
4 of 5
Draft Details: Undrafted—2008 came back from overseas
Key Stats: 14.4 MPG—7.2PPG—2.4RPG
This guy is a stud.
There is no denying that. He could become the best player on this list when he gains experience and playing time.
He has a ton of potential and has really come out of nowhere this year.
Hopefully, he will keep on growing and getting better; Denver really found a diamond in the rough.
1. Landry Fields
5 of 5
Draft Details: Second round, 39th pick 2010 Draft
Key Stats: 30MPG—10.8PPG—7.1RPG
No one has splashed onto the NBA seen like this young guy from Stanford.
While he should be averaging more points, he is still playing very impressively for a guy who almost went undrafted.
He has been called everything from a draft "steal" to a great rookie "sensation".
This kind of press will not stop until Landry stops, and if I was a betting man, I would not bet on that.
