Toronto Raptors' DeMar DeRozan Makes All-Star Ballot, but Can He Make the Team?
Toronto Raptors starting shooting guard DeMar DeRozan made this years All-Star ballot in what promises to be the first of many ballot nominations.
DeMar DeRozan has flashed his amazing potential but has not put it together on a consistent basis. Yet.
DeMar DeRozan has shown that he has improved his game, achieving career-high single-game numbers of 26 points and five assists.
He is still a very raw player, and coach Jay Triano went as far as to say that he is still a "university player," admitting that he is not close to a finished product but gives Toronto Raptor fans hope for the future.
He has shown glimpses of the ability to become a premier scorer in this league.
Does He Deserve To Be An All-Star?
No.
Not this year at least.
DeMar DeRozan still has a long way to go before making the All-Star squad, but being named to the All-Star ballot is exciting enough for any hardcore Raptor fan.
Yes, it's a bit tainted because Linas Kleiza managed to make the ballot as well, but we’ll take all the good news we can get in Raptorland.
Can He Make It To The All-Star Game This Year?
If DeMar DeRozan really turns it on and can average over 18 ppg the rest of the way, with five-plus rebounds, then he has a good opportunity to be recognized by the Eastern Conference’s head coach, but it will still be a tough task to make it as a reserve.
His best shot is to make it as a starter, but needing about three million votes means he will need 50,000 fans to vote 60 times.
Will He Make The All-Star Game In The Future?
DeMar DeRozan undoubtedly has an All-Star future, as he should be a premier scorer by the time he hits 25.
It may take a couple more years before DeMar DeRozan becomes an All-Star game staple, but his potential All-Star future gives Raptors fans cause for optimism this year and beyond.
