Kevin Stallings Building an Impressive Future for the Vanderbilt Commodores

Chad MintonNov 17, 2010

It's hard to believe that Kevin Stallings has now been the coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores since 1999, and he's built quite the resume since coming to Nashville.

During his time at Vanderbilt, Stallings has a built a record of 213-137 and taken Vanderbilt to two Sweet Sixteens.

Stallings is coming off his SEC Coach of the Year Award by building a solid recruiting class this season.

Just last week, Stallings added a four-star recruit in shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker, who was the best available prospect in the nation at his position.

There's a reason Stallings is in his 11th season at Vanderbilt, and it's because he continues to put competitive teams on the court year in and year out.

Now Stallings is making a strong push to get this team to the next level, which would be another Sweet Sixteen and beyond.

As the latest signee to the Vanderbilt recruiting class, Parker is known for his ability to score and his ability to run the transition offense. He also has a lot of upside on the defensive side of the ball.

This team is certainly capable of making a run this season as well, but next season is the one to target for a possible run at an SEC Championship.

With the addition of Parker, Vanderbilt should be one of the highest-scoring teams in the conference.

The current roster is already a solid scoring team with Jeffery Taylor, Brad Tinsley and John Jenkins. Virtually all of Vanderbilt's scoring threats should return next season.

We also can't forget about Vanderbilt's other big signee of the offseason, which was point guard Kendren Johnson.

Johnson was an ESPNU 100 prospect who runs the point guard position extremely well, and has great size at 6'4".

That SEC Championship has always eluded Stallings, but it looks like his best opportunity will come over the next few seasons.

Stallings has done a great job at adding the missing pieces to what this current team may be missing to make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament.
