NFL Week 10 Picks: Can the Patriots Upset the Steelers?
NFL Week 10 is upon us, and although it's Sunday morning, it's never too late for some last minute picks.
There are a lot of great matchups this week, but the main event looks to be the Steelers vs. the Patriots on Sunday night, when two of the top teams in the AFC collide for dominance.
There's a lot to go over, so let's get right to it.
Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills
1 of 13
Even without Matthew Stafford under center, the Lions still have a chance to win a road game after 24 consecutive road losses.
The Bills are still searching for their first win and won't be giving up on their home field, but with Jahvid Best taking the hand-offs, the Lions offense could prove to be just too much.
Winner: Detroit Lions
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
2 of 13
Brett Favre returns to one of his least favorite places in the world: Soldier Field. The Bears defense is one of the best in the league against both the run and the pass. The Vikings will still be without Sidney Rice, and they needed a career day from Favre to get past the dreadful Cardinals.
I don't expect it to be an easy day for Favre against the Bears, but the anemic Jay Cutler-led Bears offense doesn't look much more promising. Expect a defensive struggle.
Winner: Minnesota Vikings
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns
3 of 13
The Browns defense has shown the ability to shut down some of the league's best offenses, and suffice it to say, the Jets offense is nowhere near that category.
Of course, the Browns haven't faced a defense that's quite as aggressive or as stifling against the run as the Jets defense, so they could find it harder to play the ball-control style of offense that they'd like to play.
Winner: Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
4 of 13
Despite all the prognostications of doom for the Colts after last week's narrow defeat at the hands of the Eagles, none of the Colts' three losses have come at home.
Peyton Manning has had a field day playing some defenses tougher than the Bengals', which ranks in the middle of the pack. Even without many of his favorite weapons, Manning can still work his magic, and I'd fully expect him to find the likes of Jacob Tamme and Pierre Garcon all day if he has to.
Winner: Indianapolis Colts
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
5 of 13
The Jaguars pass defense hasn't been able to stop virtually anyone from getting a ton of yards. They've already given up 2,137 yards, the 28th-most in the league.
Against Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson? Good luck with that, Jacksonville.
Winner: Houston Texans
Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
6 of 13
The Titans' 5-3 record isn't the most impressive in the league, but they are playing at just as high a level as any of the elite teams.
The Dolphins couldn't have picked a worse game to substitute Chad Henne for Chad Pennington, whom has been sitting on the bench for a full season. The Titans defense has allowed just nine passing touchdowns while intercepting 13 passes and tallying 26 sacks.
Winner: Tennessee Titans
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7 of 13
Say what you want about the Buccaneers and head coach Raheem Morris, one thing they've done very well this season is beating the teams they're supposed to beat.
At 1-7, I'd say the Panthers fall into that category.
Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
8 of 13
The Chiefs have been the biggest surprise of the season but got handed a stinging loss by the second-biggest surprise, the Oakland Raiders.
This young team is playing like a veteran group, and a lot of that has to do with coaching. I'm sure Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weis and Todd Haley will have their guys ready to go against a weak Denver Broncos team.
Winner: Kansas City Chiefs
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
9 of 13
After the two consecutive beatings the Seahawks have been handed by the Raiders and the Giants, they should be happy if anyone picks them this week—even against the Arizona Cardinals.
I don't expect the Cardinals to come out firing on all cylinders, but home field advantage has to be good for something, right?
Winner: Arizona Cardinals
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
10 of 13
This is another one that seems almost unfair. The Cowboys have hardly been able to avoid beating themselves this season, much less look competitive against good teams. The Giants, needless to say, are up there as one of the best teams in the league right now.
The Giants handled the Cowboys in Dallas, and look ready to do even more damage to the Cowboys' painful season at New Meadowlands Stadium. Do we really expect Jason Garrett to get a win with this team in his first week as coach?
Winner: New York Giants
St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers
11 of 13
Sam Bradford continues to make the Rams front office look like geniuses for drafting him at No. 1 this year. They couldn't ask for a better team to face coming off a win and a bye week than the San Francisco 49ers, who continue to reel from their slow start.
What's been even more impressive, though, is the Rams defense. They rank seventh in scoring so far and have given Bradford short fields and low scores to help him adjust to the game at his own pace.
Winner: St. Louis Rams
New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers
12 of 13
This breakdown I wrote from earlier this week gives you all the insight you need into this game.
The Patriots rarely lose two games in a row and never look nearly as bad the next week after a poor performance.
Winner: New England Patriots
Monday Night Football: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins
13 of 13
Michael Vick. 'Nuff said.
I wasn't heavily convinced by the Redskins' early-season win over the Eagles, as it came with Vick playing only one half. The Eagles are the more talented team, and even though their quarterback carousel keeps moving, it's doing so in a much more organized manner than the one in Washington.
Winner: Philadelphia Eagles
