Fantasy Football Week 8: Latest on the Top 10 Point-Killing Injuries of the Week
It's fantasy football Week 8 and injuries are the big topic. Who should you take a chance on? Who should be replaced in the lineup?
As in every line of work, there are guys who can perform well whether they are nicked up or not. And there are guys who, even if they show up for work, you might want to sit or send home.
Here's a list of guys and their current state of health.
10. Carson Palmer
1 of 10
Palmer has missed practice with a sore hip, but his coach says he will most likely play.
The odds of Carson sitting out are not that high if you consider that his team is 2-4 and can't afford to continue their losing streak. And because his backup is his brother, Jordan.
Jordan Palmer has never started a game in the NFL.
Keep an eye on this one, but as of now go with Palmer. Carson, that is.
9. Alex Smith
2 of 10
Maybe, if you have Tony Romo or Brett Favre or one of the guys on bye, you were thinking of taking a shot at Alex Smith since Denver's defense gives up its share of points.
Don't.
Alex Smith is out and Troy Smith, the former Baltimore backup, will be starting in merry old England. I doubt you want to have him in your lineup—even if you are desperate.
No offense, Troy.
8. DeAngelo Williams
3 of 10
Williams' up and down season continues...he didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday because of a foot injury. Unless you like living dangerously, you are going to have to keep monitoring this situation.
Today should be the big day. If he doesn't practice today, you might be out of luck with him this week.
7. Vernon Davis
4 of 10
When it rains, it pours for the 49ers.
Superstar tight end Vernon Davis has missed a few practices overseas, but the word is he'll most likely play.
Will it be with a limp? Not sure, but Troy Smith probably knows to try to get it to him if he is in the game.
6. Joseph Addai
5 of 10
The news out of Indianapolis is that they are piecing together a running back by committee. Addai is up in the air for this week. Mike Hart is probably a go and they are also optimistic about Donald Brown.
So basically, as far as fantasy goes, it is the worst-case scenario.
Stay away from all three.
5. Chris Ivory
6 of 10
Relax, Ivory isn't hurt, but there are updates on the other two backs he shares the backfield with. Pierre Thomas is going to see a specialist and isn't due back this week.
Reggie Bush is said to be "very doubtful" for Week 8, even though he did some running this week.
So, Ivory owners are good to go for another week.
4. Matthew Stafford
7 of 10
One thing about Lions quarterbacks lately is that no matter how hard they get hit, they do come back, eventually.
Stafford is said to be fresh and ready to go after missing six weeks.
His shoulder seems to be fine and, being that Shaun Hill put up impressive fantasy numbers in his absence, the hope is that Stafford can do the same—if not better.
David Garrard
8 of 10
No one has been more inconsistent than Garrard this year, in my opinion. But Jags offensive fantasy productivity was down across the board without him. So I guess we have to welcome him back this week.
At least Mike Thomas owners should. Thomas gave negative points in some leagues last week.
Ugh.
2. Malcom Floyd
9 of 10
There is a chance that you might see Vincent Jackson on the field for the Chargers before you see Malcom Floyd again. He is out this week and probably next week.
Hopefully you were quick enough to pick up Patrick Crayton off waivers a couple weeks ago.
1. Steven Jackson
10 of 10
This guy might be related to Ronnie Lott. The more injured he gets, the harder he runs.
So, get this—this guy had surgery on his finger this week. And he is a go for Sunday.
Though officially questionable, he declared to anyone listening that he will definitely play.
That man is a warrior. And you should definitely have him in your lineup.
