Kenny Britt and 10 More Players You Need to Sign to Your Fantasy Football Team
For football fans who own a fantasy football team, and more importantly, for owners who are struggling, Week 7 of the NFL season may have proven to be a saving grace.
Sure, you might be upset that you were a few hours late in signing guys like Peyton Hillis, Arian Foster or Lance Moore. But now is not the time to look at the past; instead look for what hidden gems might still be awaiting you.
Yesterday, Kenny Britt headlined a group of relatively unknown players with standout performances and helped their offenses succeed. Britt caught nearly every receiving yard for the Titans yesterday, snatching seven passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Not bad for a guy who was benched for the first quarter due to disciplinary reasons.
Besides Britt, here are 10 others players who either stood out yesterday, or have been flying under the radar thus far but can help your team succeed.
Steve Johnson
1 of 10
They may be no better find right now than Steve Johnson.
Having emerged as the No. 1 receiving threat at Buffalo, Johnson is largely overlooked because he plays for arguably the worst team in football in what is also arguably the league's worst market.
Since quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was made the Bills' starter, Johnson has gone off, catching 25 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns. Considering he's only owned by one-thrid of owners on Yahoo's Fantasy Football, this guy could be a tremendous pick up.
The success of Johnson leads to your second pick up.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
2 of 10
When a team is 0-6 and has struggled like the Bills have for over a decade, you don't normally look to them for new offensive standouts. But you could be seeing the emergence of a new full-time starting quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The journeyman quarterback took over the reins for the Bills last month and has put up very solid numbers this year, throwing for 969 yards with 11 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He's also run for 116 yards.
He also became the first Bills quarterback in three seasons to throw for over 300 yards yesterday, doing it on the road against the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite being sixth in the NFL in touchdown passes, he's only owned by 11 percent of owners on Yahoo. With some of the NFL's marquee quarterbacks about to hit their bye week, Fitzpatrick could be an excellent pick up.
Jordan Shipley
3 of 10
Though the Bengals lost, many fantasy owners of Carson Palmer were happy yesterday, seeing the once-great quarterback look like his old self and throwing for over 400 yards.
One of those that benefited most from his performance was rookie Jordan Shipley, who caught six passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Shipley, who started the season injured, was discussed, at great length, in the preseason as being a great slot option for the Bengals. Despite the praise, he's only owned by four percent of fantasy owners on Yahoo. With his performance yesterday, the time might be perfect to play him at a flex position.
Blair White
4 of 10
Looking for a receiver who is completely under the radar? Look no further than Blair White, the rookie receiver in Indianapolis.
White is trying to be this year's version of Austin Collie who, with Pierre Garcon, came out of nowhere when players like Anthony Gonzales got hurt.
With the season-ending injury to Dallas Clark and the lengthy injury to the aforementioned Collie, White is being presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, considering Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon are the only reliable receivers left on the roster.
Thus far, White has six catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. With only three percent of owners on Yahoo Sports owning him, White could easily sneak up on people in the second half of the season.
LeGarrette Blount
5 of 10
It's hard to feel that good for a guy who just one year ago embarrassed himself and his school by sucker punching a Boise State player at the end of a game.
However, we are a society of second chances, and Blount resurrected his college career and rushed for 72 yards in his victory against the St. Louis Rams.
With only four percent of Yahoo owners claiming Blount as their own, he could be an interesting pick up for owners in need of a replacement for a starter that has a bye week.
David Gettis
6 of 10
Say hello to the new No. 2 wide receiver of the Carolina Panthers.
After an eight-catch, 125-yard and two-touchdown performance, and the hopeful reemergence of quarterback Matt Moore, Gettis could start to get more targets in the coming weeks.
With only one percent of fantasy owners seeing how well he did last week, Gettis could be a great bet for the upcoming bye weeks.
Christopher Ivory
7 of 10
With the return of Reggie Bush coming, the value of Ivory may go down slightly. However, with Pierre Thomas still inured and the solid play thus far of Ivory, he is still a valuable pick up if you need a running back.
Less than half of Yahoo's owners have Ivory on their team, and for a running back with 325 yards of rushing in just a few games this year, he may well pay off, depending how severe Thomas' injury is.
Ben Watson
8 of 10
Still smarting from the season-ending injuries to Dallas Clark and JerMichael Finley? You may want to go to Cleveland of all places and pick up Ben Watson to fill that void.
Owned by only half of the Yahoo owners, Watson has had a solid season with 30 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns.
Knowing that rookie quarterbacks and those with a limited range often love their tight end, Watson should see some consistent touches regardless of who is taking the snaps.
Chad Henne
9 of 10
It may seem odd to find a quarterback who is starting for a playoff-caliber team to be on this list.
This isn't a case of someone like Donovan McNabb who has struggled for a team despite being 3-3. Chad Henne, in fact, has the 12th most fantasy points in the NFL thus far.
Despite this relative success, he is owned by only 41 percent of players right now. With guys like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers due to have bye weeks soon, there is perhaps no better pick up than Henne.
Davone Bess
10 of 10
When you find an underrated quarterback, you will often see that he's paired with an equally underrated receiver. (See Buffalo.)
The same can be said in Miami where Davone Bess is helping to solidify himself as the team's No. 2 receiving option after Brandon Marshall. With 32 catches for 348 yards and three touchdowns, Bess is having a solid season.
Still, he is owned by only 41 percent of teams in Yahoo Fantasy Football. With the Dolphins playing better offense since their early season struggles, Bess could continue to emerge as a solid player, as he continues to thrive under the tough coverage of Marshall.
