NFL Trade Deadline Speculation: Will the Baltimore Ravens Trade Willis McGahee?

Old AccountOct 18, 2010

With the NFL trade deadline looming, a possible trade scenario I am looking at involves the Baltimore Ravens and running back Willis McGahee.

In the loss to the New England Patriots, it came as a surprise that McGahee did not earn one carry against a Patriots defense that was getting tired in the second half. Questions began to rise about McGahee after the game, as he did not even earn any opportunities on third and shorts.

And then I began to think. Are the Baltimore Ravens setting up themselves to trade the veteran running back before Tuesday's deadline?

McGahee's future as a Raven has been in doubt since last year, with many expected 2010 to be the last year that he wears a Ravens uniform.

With the trade deadline a day away, the Ravens may be hoping to find a suitor who is desperate and may overpay for the touchdown machine.

A team that comes to mind is the Green Bay Packers. The locker room reportedly was upset that management did not trade for former Bills running back Marshawn Lynch.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson may be forced to pull the trigger for a team that has lost two straight games and heads into a Sunday night showdown with the Minnesota Vikings.

I am curious about this possibility because of the thought that McGahee was held out of the game against the Patriots in order to avoid an injury.

We will find out soon enough if the Ravens decide to pull a trigger on a deal for McGahee if a team such as the Packers might overpay to hopefully add the final piece to the puzzle.
