NFL Fantasy Football: Sneaky Week 7 Pick-Ups To Get Ahead of the Game

If your roster is pretty much set this week you may want to take a peak ahead to next week. I know you hear the phrase one opponent at a time, but that’s not the case in fantasyland. While people are struggling to fill out this week’s roster, be proactive and get a step ahead of them. Here are some targets with good Week 7 match-ups.

Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Freeman hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, but he’s averaging 206 passing yards per game and 28 rushing yards per game with 5 TDs and 3 INTs. He’s basically struggled against tough defenses (CIN & PIT) averaging 232 yards, 17.5 rushing yards, and 0.5 TDs, and played solid against bad ones (CLE & CAR) averaging 180 yards, 38.5 rushing yards, and 2 TDs. The good news for those with a QB on bye next week is that he faces St. Louis.

Matt Cassel, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Cassel also has a good match-up next week, facing the Jacksonville pass defense that ranks 29th with 282 passing yards allowed per game. They also have allowed more passing TDs (12) than any other team. If Cassel has a solid game against Houston today, he will be popular on the waiver wire next week. If you’re one step ahead of the game, you can secure him today.


Willis McGahee, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Running backs are tough to speculate on because if they are good, they are quickly snatched up. McGahee could be available and takes on Buffalo’s run defense that ranks last in rushing yards allowed (182.4 per game) and rushing TDs allowed (7). In a game that could easily be out of hand at halftime, McGahee could see 10-15 carries.


Steve Breaston, WR, Arizona Cardinals 
Breaston should return from a bye this week. Max Hall breathed some life into the Cardinals’ offense. He’d make a decent bye week play against a Seattle pass defense allowing 302 yards per game.


Mike Thomas, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Chiefs can be passed on. They are allowing 240 yards per game, which ranks 25th. However, for the lucky soul, in this case Mike Sims-Walker, facing shutdown corner Brandon Flowers, life isn’t so easy. With MSW being blanketed by Flowers, Thomas has a chance to have a decent day.


Tony Moeaki, TE, Kansas City Chiefs 
Moeaki has flown under the radar despite being solid in all four games this year. Like Cassel, he has good match-ups this week (Houston) and next week (Jacksonville).


Seattle Defense 
With the Cardinals looming, even coming off a bye, you have to like the Seahawks defense as a plug-in option. Seattle has 5 INTs and 11 sacks.


San Francisco Defense
The Niners have not lived up to the preseason hype, but they get a chance next week when they take on the hapless Panthers. If they can pick up a win this week against the Raiders, they’ll have the momentum they need to get things turned around. The Panthers have been as bad on offense as any team in recent memory.
