NFL Picks Week 6: 5 Teams That Could Rebound After a Week 5 Loss
It's been a roller-coaster 2010 NFL season for some teams, and my "NFL Picks Week 6" article aims to highlight that.
Some have stumbled, others have nearly fallen flat on their face, but all is not lost for teams that lost in week five.
Luckily, there's still plenty of football to play. We're only in week six, and though what goes up must come down, teams that have slipped down can pop right back up with a big win this week.
Several teams face favorable match-ups, so let's look at just a handful of the teams that have a shot at getting back in the "W" column.
San Francisco 49ers
1 of 5
Could the 49ers really pick up their first win of the season? There isn't much better of an opportunity for them to do it, as they play host to the 2-3 Oakland Raiders.
The 49ers haven't really done much of anything very well this season, so it would be difficult for me to argue that without theoretical claims. However, the 49ers have kept several games close against the Saints, Eagles, and Falcons, all undeniably much better teams than the Raiders.
For the sake of their jobs, they better make sure that's the case.
49ers win, 17-14
San Diego Chargers
2 of 5
Rodney Harrison said it best on NBC's Football Night in America on Sunday when he said that the Chargers' problems can no longer be attributed to home and away games. They lost a road game to the Raiders, who play literally less than an hour away.
That being said, the Chargers need to win their road game this week to get back on track. Luckily, they travel to St. Louis, where the Rams await. They just had their confidence broken in half by a 44-6 drubbing at the hands of Detroit.
Luckily for San Diego, the Rams' special teams aren't so special that they threaten to steal the game.
Chargers win, 30-27
Green Bay Packers
3 of 5
This is a hard one to pick simply because the status of Aaron Rodgers remains uncertain, though it's appearing more probable that he'll play.
That being said, there's not much better of an opportunity for the Packers to rebound than to host the 2-2 Miami Dolphins, coming off a bye after an embarrassing 41-14 loss that saw them fire their special teams coordinator.
Jermichael Finley is done for the season, and Clay Matthews is uncertain for this game, but the Packers' offense could just be too much for the Dolphins. They barely escaped the Bills in week one, and got lucky with poor decisions by Brett Favre in week two. The Packers will have to make sure that they don't shoot themselves in the foot with costly penalties, but their offense could be too potent for the Dolphins' offense to keep up with.
Packers win, 28-20
Kansas City Chiefs
4 of 5
The Kansas City Chiefs face a difficult task in facing their second top-end pass attack in as many weeks, both on the road. They were able to minimize the effectiveness of Peyton Manning, and the Texans have given us no reason to believe they're incapable of being upset, even at home.
They've lost two home games already, to the Cowboys (1-3) and the Giants (3-2)
In classic Romeo Crennel style with the New England Patriots, the Chiefs have transformed into a fast and in-your-face defense that plays the "bend, don't break" style of defense to a T.
If the Chiefs are able to shut down the run, which they've done effectively this year, they could really throw a wrench in the Texans game plan by dropping seven or eight into coverage, confusing Schaub even worse than they did Manning.
Chiefs win, 24-17
Minnesota Vikings
5 of 5
The Vikings are in must-win mode after slipping to 1-3 in a Monday night loss to the Jets.
That being said, there's not much better of a team for them to play host to than the 1-3 Cowboys. Although these are clearly different teams than the ones that faced off in the 34-3 playoff win for the Vikings, similar results can be expected.
The Cowboys just look completely out of synch on defense, and despite Brett Favre's early-season struggles, he may not have to do much at all. A week after forfeiting 131 yards and two touchdowns on just 19 carries by Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson will be the determining factor in this game.
Vikings win, 24-13
