Fantasy Football Week Five: Start 'Em-Sit 'Em Locks To Win Your Matchup
It's Week Five and we're getting into the bye weeks, so it's even more important for you to manage your fantasy football roster carefully to get the most out of your lineup.
I'm here with 10 starters and 10 players who should see the bench if you want to find the promised land this weekend. If there are any players you want advice on, leave them in the comments. Are there any players that you disagree on? Air that out in the comments, too.
But most importantly, good luck this weekend!
No. 10 Start: LaDainian Tomlinson vs. Minnesota
1 of 20
Tomlinson has found the fountain of youth in New York, where he has proved San Diego wrong for allowing him to leave after a stellar tenure as a Charger, and will be a big factor against the Vikings.
No. 10 Sit: Brett Favre vs. NY Jets
2 of 20
Favre has been a turnover machine this year and is a far cry from what he was last year. Randy Moss won't help his value this week against the Jets.
No. 9 Start: New Orleans D/ST vs. Arizona
3 of 20
While the Saints defense has struggled to force turnovers, that will change when they go up against rookie Max Hall and the Cardinals. Don't forget Lance Moore in the return game either.
No. 9 Sit: Mike Sims-Walker vs. Buffalo
4 of 20
Sims-Walker has been invisible for most of the season and is far too inconsistent to be worth a spot in your lineup and almost your roster. Wait until he shows consistency to start him.
No. 8 Start: Tony Romo vs. Tennessee
5 of 20
The past two weeks the Titans have let opposing quarterbacks throw with some success against them. Romo has had a week to prepare and will have success against a young secondary.
No. 8 Sit: Steve Smith vs. Houston
6 of 20
While Houston is the worst team in the league when it comes to stopping the pass, I wouldn't put Smith in my lineup. He hasn't scored a touchdown at all this year and has only had one big yardage game this year. Look elsewhere.
No. 7 Start: Brent Celek vs. San Francisco
7 of 20
Watching Kevin Kolb last week, it's evident he's content with taking the checkdown instead of pushing it downfield. Celek will be a big beneficiary of that mentality.
No. 7 Sit: Vince Young vs. Dallas
8 of 20
The coaching staff clearly doesn't trust Young to make plays with his arm, and he's just not going to give you enough points to make him a fantasy option at this point.
No. 6 Start: Roddy White vs. Cleveland
9 of 20
White is Matt Ryan's favorite target, and the Bengals torched Cleveland's secondary last week. I don't see why it won't happen again this week. White will have a big day through the air.
No. 6 Sit: Alex Smith vs. Philadelphia
10 of 20
We've been here with Alex Smith and, hopefully, this is the last time. Smith just isn't making plays in the passing game. He's just not consistent. Only play him if you have no other options.
No. 5 Start: Calvin Johnson Vs. St. Louis
11 of 20
The Rams are 22nd against the pass, and Calvin Johnson is a big target for Shawn Hill to hit. The Lions throw a lot, and Hill will look for Johnson often. I'd feel good with the play considering Megatron's big week last week.
No. 5 Sit: Jahvid Best vs. St. Louis
12 of 20
Jahvid Best is nursing a toe injury and hasn't made an impact since then. Even though the Rams are bad against the run, I wouldn't risk getting another mediocre performance from Best. Wait until he's healthy to put him back in the lineup.
No. 4 Start: Thomas Jones vs. Indianapolis
13 of 20
The Colts are 29th against the run, and Kansas City will run the ball early and often against Indianapolis. Thomas Jones is one of the most consistent running backs in the league. Start him and feel good about the fact that you did.
No. 4 Sit: Ray Rice vs. Denver
14 of 20
Denver allows the second fewest fantasy points to running backs, and Rice is nursing a knee injury. Avoid him at all costs unless you have to play him, like I have to this week. I'm not looking forward to it in the least.
No. 3 Start: Shaun Hill vs. St. Louis Rams
15 of 20
The Rams are 21st against the pass, and the Lions are a pretty pass-heavy team, seeing as they're down a lot. Hill has made mistakes, but he's also done it while putting up pretty good numbers. Hill is a good bye week play if you need it.
No. 3 Sit: Jonathan Stewart vs. Chicago
16 of 20
Stewart has not produced this year, much to my fantasy team's chagrin, and that long reception for a touchdown was more of a busted coverage than anything Stewart did. Leave him on the bench, but don't give up on him yet.
No. 2 Start: Matt Ryan vs. Cleveland
17 of 20
The Browns are 24th against the pass, and Matt Ryan has been consistent since the first week of the season against the Steelers. Ryan will be able to make plenty of plays down the field and he's a must-start.
No. 2 Sit: David Garrard vs. Buffalo
18 of 20
Garrard has been inconsistent this year, and he's historically worse on the road than at home. Despite the Bills being who they are, Buffalo is not an easy place to play. Look elsewhere for QB help.
No. 1 Start: Aaron Rodgers vs. Washington
19 of 20
The Redskins are 31st against the pass, and Green Bay cannot run the ball. Look for Rodgers to air it out early and often with much success against a weak Redskins pass defense. This could be his biggest game of the season.
No. 1 Sit: Matt Cassel vs. Indianapolis
20 of 20
You may be tempted to start Cassel after the week David Garrard had against the Colts, not to mention the fact that Indianapolis is average against the pass. But given Cassel's past, I'm not willing to risk it. Cassel is a bench player at best. He shouldn't see the lineup unless you have no other options. Even then, consider a waiver pickup.
