Marshawn Lynch Trade: RB Dealt To the Seattle Seahawks for Draft Picks

Chris TrapassoOct 5, 2010

The Buffalo Bills have sent  Marshawn Lynch packing to the Seattle Seahawks for a fourth-rounder in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012.

The Bills' 2007 first-round pick had been the subject of trade speculation since the end of last season, and rumors heated up when Buffalo selected C.J. Spiller with the ninth overall pick in April's draft.

To start the season, Lynch has surprisingly been the feature back, and many believed it was to showcase his skills to other teams. I, myself, didn't think that was the case, but I guess I was wrong.

Lynch leaves Buffalo after spending the first three years of his career in the Queen City. He rushed for 1,000 yards in his first two seasons as pro, but off the field issues made him fall out of favor with the Bills' front office and with fans. His beginning of the year suspensions really hurt the Bills in some big games, but ultimately led to the emergence of Fred Jackson.

Though he seemingly enjoyed the city in his first and second years, at this point, I think Lynch wanted out.

Whether you like him or not, this is the correct move at this time for the Bills.

Buffalo needs to stockpile draft picks, and the ugly mark Dick Jauron left on this team needs to be erased. James Hardy. Trent Edwards, now Marshawn Lynch.

Sure, he's a talented runner, but heading into the draft his character issues were a red flag. In typical Bills form, they selected Lynch and now they're paying for it. At least this shows Buffalo is now truly starting the rebuilding process.

Thanks for the wait.

At least now there will be enough carries to go around to Fred Jackson and Spiller. Jackson earned the right to be a feature back last year and the Bills didn't draft Spiller in the first round to return kicks and rush three times a game in the fourth quarter, right?

Lynch would have been gone at the end of this season anyway, so the sooner the Bills got rid of the former Cal standout, the better.

In his first two seasons, I loved the guy, but after his run-ins with the law and his changed running-style I couldn't look at him the same way.

The Bills are at rock bottom, and the harsh reality is that they need to let some of the "household" names from the past go.

(Scary side note: Paul Posluszny remains the only 2007 Bills-draftee left on the current roster.)
