SEC Football: Power Ranking The Receivers Going Into Week 5

Most of the SEC's best receivers and tight ends were in conference action last week. That means they played against better defenses, and we get a better measure of how good they really are.

While eight players are the same from last week's power rankings, there is a lot of movement within the rankings.

Here are the 10 best SEC receivers and tight ends heading into Week 5.

No. 10 Tavarres King, Georgia

Hometown: Mount Airy, GA

King breaks into the top 10 this week with two catches for 79 yards and a touchdown in Georgia's 24-12 lost to Mississippi St.

He was suspended for the season opener after getting arrested for possession of alcohol. Since then, King has shown to a big play threat, averaging 22 yards a reception.

Let's see how much of a weapon he remains when All-American WR A.J. Green returns to the Bulldogs starting lineup Saturday versus the Colorado Buffaloes.

Adams only had four catches for 45 yards in the Tigers 35-37 comeback victory over South Carolina. Therefore, he remains ninth this week. Adams could have a bigger game on Saturday versus the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.

No. 8 Chad Bumphis, Mississippi St.

Height: 5-10

Weight: 195 lbs.

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Tupelo, MS

Bumphis sneaks into the eigth spot this week. He is QB Chris Reif's go-to receiver and accounted for 64 yards on four catches (three for first downs) in Mississippi State's first home win over Georgia since 1951.

Bumphis should have a big game on Saturday as the Bulldogs host undefeated Alcorn St. from the SWAC.

Williams stays at No. 7 in this week's rankings. He had 63 yards on five grabs (three for first downs) in the Razorbacks 24-20 lost to top-ranked Alabama.

He will be in for a long day when Arkansas next plays Texas A&M (and its 15th ranked defense) in the Southwest Classic on Oct. 9.

Thompson jumps from eighth to sixth in this week's power rankings. He had five catches for 86 yards against Kentucky. Thompson will need to play even bigger on Saturday night when the Gators visit top-ranked Alabama.

Durham stays in fifth after a four-catch, 64-yard performance in the Bulldogs lose to Mississippi State.

He has been QB Aaron Murray's go-to receiver in A.J. Green's absence. That will likely remain at least one more game when Green returns to the lineup for Saturday's contest at the Colorado Buffaloes.

Childs descends from third to fourth this week. He snatched three balls for 44 yards against Alabama, although one was a tremendous 31-yard over-the-shoulder catch.

He hopes have a better game against Texas A&M on Oct. 9 than last year when he only had three catches for 10 yards.

Jones only had five catches for 55 yards against Arkansas. But four of them were for first downs, keeping drives going in Alabama's 24-20 comeback victory.

That's why Jones moves up from No 4. to No. 3 in this week's power rankings. He accounts for 28.4 percent of the Tide's receiving yards.

He needs to do better against the seventh-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday night.

No. 2 Joe Adams, Arkansas

Weight: 190 lbs.

Class: Junior

Hoemtown: Little Rick, AR

Adams drops from No. 1 to No. 2 after a subpar four-catch, 45-yard performance against Alabama. Still, on a receiving corps full of playmakers, Adams has accumulated 26.6 percent of the Razorbacks receiving yards.

He will hope to bounce back versus Texas A&M. Last year, Adams had three catches for 110 yards against the Aggies.

No. 1 Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

Jeffery moves up from No.2 to No. 1 after grabbing his first two touchdowns of the season in the Gamecocks 35-27 loss to Auburn last Saturday. He caught eight passes for 192 yards in the game.

Jeffery leads the SEC in receptions and yards. His 498 receiving yards currently ranks his third in the nation. If that's not all, he accounts for a whopping 56.1 percent of South Carolina's receiving yards in 2010. Now, he has two weeks to prepare to host top-ranked Alabama on Oct. 9.
