Week 2 QB Ranks

The Brotherhood rolls out our weekly QB Ranks & Writeups.

The headliner this week will take place Sunday night when the Manning’ boys face off in Indianapolis. Both Peyton and Eli have gotten off to hot starts to begin the season.

I fully expect them to keep it going in what’s shaping up to be a high scoring affair. Peyton is the king of the quarterback mountain, but Eli has his sights set on the summit.  If the Giants can pull out a win in the “Manning Bowl”, Peyton and the Colts would start 0-2 for the first time since 1998. Get your popcorn ready for this one.

The other big story heading into week 2 is the return of Michael Vick. Vick took over for the injured Kevin Kolb and performed at a very high level. Along with the Packers Brandon Jackson, he was one of the most added players in all of fantasy football this week.  All eyes will be on the waiver wire darling this weekend when the Eagles face off against Detroit.

Aaron Rodgers

1) Aaron Rodgers – GRE – QB, vs. Buffalo Bills, Sun 1:00 PM
For all of us who selected Rodgers in the first round probably came away disappointed with his week 1 performance. He was very ordinary to say the least. He went 19-31(61%) for 188 yards with 2 TD’s and 2 Int’s. Not exactly the type of production we were looking for. The offense had difficulty getting into a rhythm against a good Eagles defense and Rodgers misfired on several throws. That will not be the case this weekend when Rodgers and Co. host the Bills on Sunday afternoon. This match up is exactly what the team needs to get on track

Peyton Manning

2) Peyton Manning – IND – QB, vs. New York Giants, Sun 8:20 PM
Manning looked to be in mid season form in the opener against the Texans. However, the same can’t be said for the Colts defense. Manning attempted an astronomical 57 passes in an attempt to lead the Colts back from an early deficit. He was an impressive 40-57(70%) for 433 yards and 3 TD’s. The Colts host the Giants this Sunday night in the “Manning Bowl”. Bob Sanders is out for the year so expect the Giant to score early and often. Manning will again be forced to throw a ton in this one, but don’t expect another 57 attempts. This one has the potential to be a barn burner.

Drew Brees

3) Drew Brees – NOR – QB, at San Francisco 49ers, Mon 8:30 PM
Brees looked unstoppable on the Saints opening drive last Thursday night against the Vikings. He led the offense down the field for an opening score but then failed to reach the end zone the rest of the game. The Saints passed the ball almost exclusively throughout the entire first half. Brees finished an efficient 27-36(75%) for 237 yards with 1 TD. His bottom line would have looked much better had he found the end zone a second time. Up next for the Saints is a trip to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. The 49ers got embarrassed by Seattle so expect them to come out fighting in this one. The Saints should feature a more balanced attack to help set up the play action pass. Look for Brees to post similar numbers as he did against the Vikings but expect another passing touchdown.

4) Philip Rivers – SDC – QB, vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, Sun 4:15 PM
I was curious to see how Rivers would perform without Vincent Jackson and LaDainian Tomlinson. Although the Chargers lost the game, Rivers was able to post solid overall numbers. He was 22-39(56%) for 298 and 2 TD’s. He wasn’t as efficient as we would have liked but that will come as he continues developing better chemistry with Floyd and Naanee. Rivers has another strong match up this weekend at home against the Jaguars. The running game should be more effective in this one, which will help set up the play action pass. Rivers throws as good a deep ball as anyone in the league. Expect him to attack the Jaguars secondary vertically on Sunday afternoon. Rivers is a must start QB1.

Matt Schaub

5 of 15

5) Matt Schaub – HOU – QB, at Washington Redskins, Sun 4:15 PM
Schaub surely disappointed his fantasy owners last week. I ranked him #2 heading into the opener because I expected the Texans to be the ones playing catch up. Instead, Schaub was asked to do very little but hand the ball off to Fantasy Football Brothers Sleeper Arian Foster. The end result was an overall disappointing 9-17(52%) for 107 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. Expect a bounce back game this weekend at Washington. The Texans will lean heavily on Schaub and the passing game to take some pressure off of Foster. Foster is almost certainly going to need a week or two after his 33 carry 231 yard performance to get his legs under him. The good news is, the Texans finally have a legitimate ground game. Start Schaub with confidence.

Tony Romo

6) Tony Romo – DAL – QB, vs. Chicago Bears, Sun 1:00 PM
Romo completed a stunning last second touchdown pass to give the Cowboys a week 1 victory. That would have been my opening line had the play not been called back due to offensive holding. The end result was a Cowboys loss. Romo threw early and often because the Cowboys line was unable to open any holes for the ground game. Romo finished 31-47(65%) for 282 yards and 1 TD. Overall it was a solid outing. This week the Boys will host the Bears. Look for Romo to post solid passing totals again. However, it should be noted that the o-line needs to perform on a much higher level to give the offense a more balanced attack and keep Romo healthy.

Eli Manning

7 of 15
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - SEPTEMBER 12: Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants hands the ball to Ahmad Bradshaw #44 during their game against the Carolina Panthers on September 12, 2010 at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Gian

7) Eli Manning – NYG – QB, at Indianapolis Colts, Sun 8:20 PM
Aside from his three interceptions, Eli performed very well against a good Panthers pass defense. He finished the day 20-30(66%) for 263 yards with 3 TD’s and the 3 Int’s. The Giants featured a well balanced attack and appear to have what looks like a very balanced offense. This week the Giants travel to Indy to take on the Colts in the “Manning Bowl”. Eli should be able to post similar numbers from last week while improving on his interception total. He makes a solid, safe and efficient QB1.

Tom Brady

8 of 15
FOXBORO, MA - SEPTEMBER 12: Quarterback Tom Brady #12 and Randy Moss #81 of the New England Patriots take a breather on the bench during the NFL season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals at Gillette Stadium on September 12, 2010 in Foxboro, Massachuset

8) Tom Brady – NEP – QB, at New York Jets, Sun 4:15 PM
Brady and the Patriots offense came out firing on all cylinders. Brady appeared 100% healthy and looked very comfortable in the pocket. He was an efficient 25-35(71%) for 258 with 3TD’s. It was a very nice start for this offense. This week the Patriots travel to New York to face off against the vaunted Jets defense. Brady should be in your lineups but keep your expectations in check. Look for a solid but unspectacular outing.

Joe Flacco

9) Joe Flacco – BAL – QB, at Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 1:00 PM
Although the box score doesn’t show it, Flacco played a good game on Monday night against the Jets. He completed 20-38(52%) passes for 248 yards and 1 interception. Flacco looked poised throughout the game and did just enough to help the Ravens win. The most impressive part of his performance  was watching him keep his composure after suffering a bone crushing hit early on. He has another difficult match up this week against the Cincinnati Bengals. This will be another good test to gauge how much the young signal caller has progressed. Flacco makes a decent QB1 this week.

Brett Favre

10) Brett Favre – MIN – QB, vs. Miami Dolphins, Sun 1:00 PM
Favre looked rusty in his debut against the Saints. He wasn’t on the same page as his receivers largely due to him missing most of the pre-season. Favre went 15-27(55%) for 171 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. With more time to prepare during practice this week we can expect a better performance against the Dolphins. Favre makes a decent QB1 but it was obvious he missed Sidney Rice.

Michael Vick

11) Michael Vick – PHI – QB, at Detroit Lions, Sun 1:00 PM
Vick entered the game against the Packers after Kevin Kolb left with a concussion. He played better than expected and nearly brought the Eagles back from a 20-3 deficit. He was uncharacteristically accurate completing 16-24(66%) for 175 yards and 1 TD. He also added another 103 yards rushing on only 11 carries. With Kolb ruled out against the Lions, Vick has the opportunity to prove he’s still an NFL caliber quarterback. He makes a solid QB1 against the Lions.

Jay Cutler

12) Jay Cutler – CHI – QB, at Dallas Cowboys, Sun 1:00 PM
Cutler was impressive on Sunday. As expected he threw for a ton of yards against the lowly Lions secondary. He finished the day 23-35(65%) for 372 yards with 2 TD’s and only 1 Int. Both of his touchdown passes were short throws that RB Matt Forte was able to turn into long gains. Like we said in the pre-season, Cutler could have a very good statistical season in a Mike Martz offense. If the line can keep him upright and he improves his red zone efficiency, he could become a top 7 passer. This weekend the Bears face off with the Cowboys in Dallas. It will be a good test to see how Cutler performs in this one.

13-16 Ryan,Orton,McNabb and Anderson

13) Matt Ryan – ATL – QB, vs. Arizona Cardinals, Sun 1:00 PM
As expected, Ryan was very ordinary against the Steelers on Sunday. He failed to find the end zone and the offense settled for three field goals in the loss. If Ryan’s going to be considered a weekly option and QB1 he needs to perform better against top defenses. He went 27-44 for 253 yards with 1 Int. Not bad, but not great. He has a good match up this weekend against the Cardinals. We can expect similar passing totals and I think he’ll find the end zone a couple of times. He’s a decent option this week.

14) Kyle Orton – DEN – QB, vs. Seattle Seahawks, Sun 4:05 PM
Orton continues to be one of the most underrated passers in football. He continues to post strong numbers yet he remains unowned in most leagues. Against the Jaguars Orton went 21-33(63%) for 295 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. He’s not the sexy pick, but he plays safe and consistent football. He’ll be tested at home Sunday against an improved Seattle secondary. Orton makes a good QB2.

15) Donovan McNabb – WAS – QB, vs. Houston Texans, Sun 4:15 PM
It wasn’t pretty but McNabb was able to pull out a win in his Redskin debut. He finished the day 15-32(46%) for 171 yards and added a 17 run on his only carry. McNabb has always been on the inaccurate side and I think we should expect more of the same going forward in this offense. He should perform better this weekend in Houston, but I would consider him a fringe starter. Keep him on your bench if you have a better option.

16) Derek Anderson – ARI – QB, at Atlanta Falcons, Sun 1:00 PM
Anderson has the opportunity to become fantasy relevant in this offense. He wasn’t sharp but he did manage to post solid numbers. Against the Rams he went 22-41(53%) for 297 yards and 1 TD. I expect him to perform better as he continues to develop chemistry with Larry Fitzgerald. This week the Cards travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. This will be a good game to gauge the offenses progress.

17-24 Palmer,Henne,Cassel,Hasselbeck,Garrard,Campbell, Young And Bradford

17) Carson Palmer – CIN – QB, vs. Baltimore Ravens, Sun 1:00 PM
Last week I had Palmer ranked 10th. I didn’t think it would be such a blowout but I did think he would have his way with the Patriots secondary. He attempted 50 passes due to the early deficit. Overall Palmer completed 34-50(68%) for 345 yards with 2 TD’s and 1 Int. The interception total would have been much higher had it not been for several drops by the New England defense. Palmer has another difficult test this weekend against the Ravens. Palmer will most likely be under a ton of pressure throughout this one. He’s not a great start this week.

18) Chad Henne – MIA – QB, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
Henne was very ordinary in the season opener. Overall the Dolphins offense struggled to get anything going against the Bills. On the day Henne went 21-34(61%) for 182 yards. Expect the growing pains to continue this weekend against a very good Vikings defense.

19) Matt Cassel – KAN – QB, at Cleveland Browns, Sun 1:00 PM
Cassel did very little to instill confidence in fantasy nation. In the rain on Monday night against the Chargers, Cassel was an ugly 10-22(45%) for 68 with 1 TD. He needs to perform much better this weekend against the Browns. If he can’t get anything going in this one, I would be concerned for anyone who owns a Chiefs wide out or running back.

20) Matt Hasselbeck – SEA – QB, at Denver Broncos, Sun 4:05 PM
Hasselbeck exceeded all expectations against a good 49ers defense. He was an efficient 18-23(78%) for 170 yards and 2 TD’s and 1 Int. He also added a one yard rushing touchdown. Let’s see how the Seahawks do on the road this weekend in Denver. Hasselbeck needs to prove he can perform on the same level consistently before being considered a fantasy option.

21) David Garrard – JAC – QB, at San Diego Chargers, Sun 4:15 PM
Garrard was impressive in the win over Denver. He went 16-21(76%)for 170 yards and 3 TD’s. If he continues to show improvement with his passing totals and red zone efficiency, he could become fantasy relevant. Let’s see how he does this weekend against a stout Chargers defense.

22) Jason Campbell – OAK – QB, vs. St. Louis Rams, Sun 4:05 PM
Campbell was under constant pressure all day long. He managed to go 22-37(59%) for 180 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. He should be able to put up decent numbers against a poor Rams secondary. The o-line needs to keep him upright long enough to get the ball down the field. If they can’t, look for him to dump it off to his running backs like he did in week 1.

23) Vince Young – TEN – QB, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Sun 1:00 PM
Young did well in the blowout win against the Raiders. he was an efficient 13-17(76%) for 154 yards and 2 TD’s. He also added 30 yards rushing on 7 carries. He looked comfortable in the pocket but needs to improve his passing totals if he’s to be considered a fantasy option. He’ll be put to the test this weekend against a very good Steelers defense.

24) Sam Bradford – STL – QB, at Oakland Raiders, Sun 4:05 PM
I don’t think anyone thought Bradford would attempt 55 passes in his rookie debut. On the day he went 32-55 for 253 yards with 1 TD and 3 Int’s. This is the type of growing pains he will experience throughout his rookie season. He’s not an option just yet, but he did show gut’s in the opening loss. He should find it difficult again this weekend against a tough Raiders secondary.
