Carmelo Anthony and Chicago Bulls: How He Can Lead Them To NBA Title

Christopher KeshishianSep 11, 2010

We've all heard the rumors of Carmelo being shopped.

Heck, half Bleacher Report nowadays is all Carmelo news.

Everyone is making such a big deal out of Carmelo and where his talents will be by the end of next season.

It actually is a huge deal, and will reshape the NBA landscape as we know it.

The team Carmelo lands in is going to be every bit better, and depending on the team, can become instant title contenders.

Enter The Chicago Bulls

Plain and simple, Chicago needs Carmelo, and Carmelo needs Chicago.

The one weakness in the Bulls system is they do not have a reliable scorer. Rose is still too young and his perimeter game is still limited.

Fortunately, that's where Carmelo exceeds.

Carmelo is a bona fide scorer. If it isn't obvious already, please refer to the video to the left.

Carmelo will get his points every night. He can shoot the three, drive, post up, and pull up for an easy jumper (trust me, for him it's as easy as it gets).

He Doesn't Just Score

Refer to the title of the slide.

Yes, it's true, he can score 30, and even 40 points on any given night, but that's not what he's limited to.

Carmelo has become a much better rebounder through the course of his career. This would just be a bonus for the Bulls as they already have two players who were ranked in the top 10 for rebounding last year in Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah.

Also, Carmelo is becoming more of a team player season-by-season.

All these together make it an enticing deal for Chicago.

He Fits in Better With The Bulls Than Lebron Does.

Carmelo seemingly inter-wines with the Bulls and what they have.

There were rumors of Lebron James heading to the Bulls in the offseason. He joined the Miami Heat instead, which worked in the Bulls favor.

The Bulls had enough money to sign Boozer, an amazing low post scorer.

They still have enough to sign 'Melo this coming offseaon if he decline his contract extension.

Had Chicago signed James, they would have two players with extremely similar play-styles in Derrick Rose (In the video on the left) and James. Both are masters at breaking down defense and slicing through the opposing team's players to get to the rack.

Signing James would have stalled Rose's growth as a player. He would be forced to play in a style out of his comfort zone.

With Anthony though, Chicago gets a guy who can score in every way be it a jump shot, layup, or post move. He could play his own game while Rose contributes his way. This way, Rose can develop and the team has an elite scorer.

Also, Boozer is an offensive mastermind when it comes to scoring in the post. He would draw double teams which could leave Melo open for a shot. Melo would also attract double teams, forcing the other team to leave a player open. They could be forced to double team off of Rose or Boozer given the right situation, meaning they would have their ways with the defense.

Carmelo's Defensive Problems Would Not Show Up As Much

Carmelo is an average to above average defender. He can guard a team's best player, but only to some extent.

He needs to conserve some energy for the offensive end.

With the Bulls, he wouldn't have to guard the other team's best player since that job would be left to Ronnie Brewer, a defensive expert.

Also, Carmelo would have Joakim Noah patrolling the paint, and his defense alone could cover up Anthony's and Boozer's defensive mistakes.

Korver Will Be The Designated

Kyle Korver is an amazing shooter. He led the league in 3-point % last season.

Carmelo's driving will leave him open, and so will the double teams he attracts. Korver will always be there to take the three and he's not going anywhere. His shooting really completes the system and it will be interesting to see Carmelo drive and kick it out to him, as well as Rose kicking it out.

I wouldn't be surprised if he shot close to 96% percent with all the open looks hes going to get.
