Create-Your-Own All-Time Fantasy Team: And Away We Go

Bob WiltgenSep 3, 2010

As the pre-season winds down, Fantasy drafts are coming to a close, and we are gearing up for the regular season to begin, a season in which Fantasy Football seems to be at an all-time high, I have brought together a list of who would be on my All-Time Fantasy Football roster.

I have assembled this team according to who I feel would give me the best team to win week after week (not including bye weeks or bench players and in standard positions-QB, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, WR3, TE, K, DEF).

After reading through this, I encourage you to create your own team and put it in the comments section!

 Happy reading!

QB-Tom Brady, 2007

In 2007, Tom Brady put up unfathomable numbers: 4,806 yards, 50 TD's, 8 INT's.

Having a pair of receivers (Moss and Welker) who seemed to be open all day, Brady achieved the record for tossing the most TD's in a season.

The Patriots went on to play to a perfect record throughout the regular season, only to fall to the Giants in the Super Bowl and finishing with an 18-1 record.

Hard to match up any other QB (statistically) against this guy.

RB- Walter Payton, 1977

Walter Payton is considered by many to be the best running back in the history of the NFL. In 1977, Payton rushed for 1,852 yards, scored 14 TD's, had a 5.5 ypc, averaged 132 yards per game and a total of 2,121 yards from scrimmage.

He may not hold the record for most rushing yards in a season, most TD's in a season or even the most rushing yards in a career (Emmitt Smith), but if you saw how he ran the ball with power and finesse and heart, you would wonder how he is not the leader in every stat category for a running back.

Look up videos of Walter. Adrian Peterson has nothing on this guy!

RB2- Chris Johnson, 2009

2,006 yards. I repeat. 2,006 yards. Unbelievable for a 2nd year player. He also added 14 TD's, 50 catches for 503 yards and another 2 TD's.

The question is can Sir Speediness continue his form and run his way into the record books?

It's going to be an interesting season.

WR1- Randy Moss, 2007

Tom Brady to Randy Moss a record 23 times in 2007. What a pair those guys made. Not only did Moss snag 23 TD's, but he also had 1,493 yards.

Being a downfield threat, his size makes him a nightmare for most corners and safeties alike. Had he played in Minnesota or New England his whole career and stayed away from those Raiders, a la Jerry Rice, he may be the best to ever play the game at his position.

WR2- Jerry Rice, 1995

I will forgive Jerry for his later choices (Raiders, Seahawks) for what he did the rest of his career. The NFL's All-Time leading receiver in yards and touchdowns, Rice is the model for what WR's aspire to nowadays.

In 1995, his stats read: 1,848 yds, 15 TD's, 115.5 ypg and 1 RUSHING TD!

Those are some pretty awesome stats for a WR2. Can you find anyone better?

WR3- Andre Johnson

Andre Johnson is going to break some records. At 6'3, 225 and hands stickier than Gorilla Glue, Johnson is coming off back-to-back 1,500 yard seasons. Poised for another big season, he and QB Matt Schaub should make for a fun and exciting tandem.

Let's hope AJ gets into the double digits for TD's this year. He has the potential to score everytime the Texans are in the red zone.

TE- Tony Gonzalez

When it comes to tight ends in the NFL, you can't have a conversation without discussing, at length, Tony Gonzalez.

He holds the records for, well, just about everything for a tight end. Durable, big, strong and a great blocker, Tony G is the unquestioned best tight end to play in the NFL.

K- Morten Anderson

DEF- 1985 Chicago Bears

One of the most ferocious defenses in the history of the NFL, the 85 Bears obliterated opponents on the defensive side of the ball.

They finished off an almost perfect season, falling only to the Dolphins during the regular season on their way to Super Bowl XX.

Guys like Dent, Singletary, Rivera, "The Fridge"....what a defense. And it was masterminded by the legendary Buddy Ryan. The 46 Defense was absolutely genius!
