The Top Ten Contenders For The NBA's Next Dynasty

Hayden KimAug 24, 2010

As the NBA' Offseason begins to cool down from all the unexpected drama, it may be a good time to look ahead a bit into the future of the NBA.

The Lakers are obviously the favorite heading into this season, and when are they not? It seems as though they will be forever, but sadly, nothing lasts forever.

There are many teams out there that could take the spot of NBA's Next 'Dynasty' in the near future, and in this piece, I will be listing the Top Ten Candidates to take over when the Lakers' Reign starts to slow down.

What makes a dynasty though? There is much debate on this topic, but there are two aspects to a dynasty that must be true in every team. To become a dynasty, a team must dominate for a long period of time (4 years>) and must win multiple championships in a row whether it be a 3-peat, or winning 4 championships in 5 years. Every team must perform at this level to some point to be considered a dynasty.

Here are the Top Ten teams that might as well become an NBA Dynasty in the near future.

#10 Utah Jazz

1 of 10

When you have arguably the best point guard in the league, you have to consider that team. The positive for the Jazz, is that they have good role players. They have Kirelenko ad Okur. They may have lost Boozer, but they are still a solid team.

I do not think they have as good a chance as some of the teams listed here, but they still have Deron Williams, and we are talking about the future, this team could rebuild in the next couple of years and you never know what this team could do.

#9 Dallas Mavericks

2 of 10

With the return of Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas is back to full strength.

If there has always been an advatage for the Mavericks, it has been Mark Cuban. Cuban is notorious for being the anything but ordinary. Cuban is obviously one of the richest owners in the league, but he seems to truly care about his teams success. That is why the Mavericks have a good first step in becoming a dynasty in the near future.

There are some negatives for the Mavericks, as there are for every team in the league. This Maverick' team isn't getting any younger. Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and even Dirk are the leaders of the team, and they aren't exactly young and careless as they used to be. Another negative is that, this team is limited in the fact that, they do not have many young prospects that could be a big impact in upcoming years, which could be the reason why this veteran ran team cannot become a dynasty, but this team is very solid so we will see.

With cons there are always pros. Though minimal, the Mavericks still have a very consistent superstar by Dirk, and a very solid point guard by Kidd. Every year this team seems to be somewhat successful, the only question is; can they become a dynasty before they get too old?

#8 Orlando Magic

3 of 10

It seems as though the Magic are the unluckiest team in the league today. In a different era, they could have won at least one championship by now.

The Magic are very good an for the last 3 years, they have been contenders for an NBA Championsip. There is no reason why they could keep this going.

Dwight is still young and so is Jameer, so don't count out the Magic, because they still have a lot of gas left in the tank.

#7 Houston Rockets

4 of 10

This may seem a big surprise to you, but the Rockets could be the dark horse for next years season.

The Rockets have endless talent. Aaron Brooks has done nothing but impress, Kevin Martin is as good as he'll ever be, and Luis Scola is that annoying European player who is always consistent.

It doesn't end there. The Rockets also have veterans such as Shane Battier, newly aquired Brad Miller, and Yao Ming, depending on if he's healthy.

We all know Rick Adelman is a good coach, so all this team needs to do is perform at a level that they should be, day in and day out. If they can do so, they have the tools to be contenders in the not only the West but East.

It all depends on if Yao comes back healthy, if he doesn't come back at all. At this point, it is still a question mark.  The sad thing is, we won't actually know until game one for the Rockets.

#6 Memphis Grizzlies

5 of 10

No one expected the Grizzlies to be where they are today. Though the Grizzlies had to rebuild their team from scratch after losing their main guy, Pau Gasol, they have made a full recovery.

Rudy Gay, OJ Mayo, and young ad upcoming star Marc Gasol have turned this team into potential contenders. They may not win anytime soon, but don't sleep on the Grizzlies.

As do some other teams, this team has endless potential, and youth, if this team can continue to add talented players, this squad could be contenders in the future.

#5 The Team That Aquires Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony

6 of 10

We all know that this may be a strong possibilty in a couple of years.

Paul originally wanted out of New Orleans and Carmelo wanted out of Denver, but it did not go their way, so we will have to wait and see what kind of moves they make when their contracts are up.

If they decide to join forces, as everyone is doing nowadays, that team, whoever they may be, will have a chance to become a dynasty. It depends on what team it is, and how Paul and Anthony can perform together, but that team should have a solid future.

As long as this type of deal happens within 5 years, the team tat can aquire these two have a legit shot of taking over.

#4 Portland Trailblazers

7 of 10

The Blazers are the best second tier team in the league today, and they are only getting better.

With Roy as a rising superstar, and the newly added veteran, Marcus Camby, this team could be a dynasty in the making.

On top of a very talented team, the Blazers have Paul Allen, one of the richest people in the world today. Allen may not be in the stands in a t-shirt and jeans like Cuban, but he still has an interest for success, and that is a big key to winning.

The problem is, the Blazers have been dealing with buisness problems with Vulcan, a partnership in company. They have been controlling the Blazers for awhile now, and it was no question that former GM Kevin Pritchard was fired because of Vulcan.

If the Blazers can some how deal with Vulcan, there is no reason why the Blazers couldn't become the NBA's next 'dynasty.'

#3 Chicago Bulls

8 of 10

Ok, so the Bulls didn't get the "King", but they don't need him to become a dynasty. Though LeBron could have helped, the Bulls still have a very talented group of guys, who has done nothing but improve every year.

With the addition of Carlos Boozer, this Bulls' team has only gotten better, and i wouldn't be surprised if they make it far in the playoffs this year. Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, Joachim Noah, Luol Deng, and newly added Kyle Korver, this team could become a dynasty.

It only helped that the Bulls fired Vinnie Del Negro, a coach that seemed to kill the team chemistry and limit their full potential.

The sky is the limit for this talented Bull' team, and there is only one thing that can slow them down. That is, injuries as always. If this Bulls' team can say healthy, don't be surprised to see the Bulls bringing back the glory days.

#2 Oklahoma City Thunder

9 of 10

Kevin Durant is arguably the best player in the NBA today, and he has onl been in the league for three years now.

Usually when there is a team with an young and uprising superstar, the team isn't very good, but the Thunder have all the tools to become a dynasty.

The Thunder have an underrated coach by Scott Brooks and they have many promising atheletes with Ibaka, Westbrook, and Green. This team could be the most promosing team next to the Miami Heat this year.

But everyone knows that, just because a team has all the tools to win, doesn't mean they will. As the Miami Heat have potential problems, so do the Thunder. With a young team that came off their first playoff performance, this brings up questions of: could they top their spectacular performance from last year? Can they stay healthy all year long? Can they continue to improve? All of these are valid points that could be the deciding factor of whether or not the Thunder can become a dynasty in the upcoming NBA' Seasons.

On the other hand, this Thunder team is very talented, they have a solid coach, a great leader, and they have nothing to lose. When I say they hae nothing to lose, I am talking about the mere fact that this team has only been in the league for 3 years this year, so this kind of team shouldn't even be a contender for the NBA's next 'dynasty.'

Watch out NBA' world, anything could happen with this team.

#1 Miami Heat

10 of 10

With the now infamous King and former Raptor, Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat, they are a no brainer when it comes to potential dynasties after the Lakers.

They have all the tools to take over the NBA in the next 5 years or so. With Pat Riley as the President, and a young and upcoming Erik Spoelstra at the head coaching position, this Heat' Team could be dangerous. There is the obvious possibility that Pat Riley could eventually take up coaching again as soon as something goes wrong, but for now Erik is the head coach of a very dangerous Miami Heat' Team.

The mere fact that Pat Riley is part of the Heat' Organization, it fills the arena with the upmost respect, and we don't know how someone like LeBron and Bosh will react to change, because Pat Riley will not tolerate taking pretend team photos before games anymore.

Don't get me wrong, the Heat have a very good chance of becoming a dynasty in the near future, but there are some things that could go ver wrong for them. One slip up between LeBron and Riley, and who knows what could happen.
