Miami Heat's Eddie House: 'This is Going To Be Boston on Steroids'

The final major piece to Pat Riley’s puzzle was guard Eddie House, the journeyman sharp shooter who always becomes a fan favorite wherever he plays.
“I compare it to the year I went to Boston when the Big Three got together in 2007,” House told the Arizona Republic. “But this is going to be even bigger. This is going to be Boston on steroids.”
The difference between the big three in Boston and the big three in Miami is substantial. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce are all future hall of famers, but they teamed up at the end of their primes when they were all in their 30s or close to it (Pierce was 29). LeBron James is 25, Dwyane Wade is 28, and Chris Bosh is 26. They each are in the midst of the best years of their NBA careers.
I think that’s why Eddie threw in the steroid reference. It’s true what went down in Boston can be compared in some way to what happened in Miami this summer, but not really.
“I’m living my dream,” House said. “I’m going to be ready to play when my number’s called, and a guy who never caused any problems in the locker room.”
Maybe that’s why Riley wisely didn’t pursue the likes of Tracy McGrady or Allen Iverson, who both have the big name, but weren’t good fits around the superstar nucleus already in place. House, a career 39 percent three-point shooter, was much more of a priority.
“In Boston, everybody was after us every single night. We were playing hard-fought games every night. This is going to be even crazier. We’re anointed champs from the beginning, and we’re not the champions.”
This season it’s going to be Miami, not L.A., who everyone is going to be gunning for. I don’t think the Heat would have it any other way. If only October 26 could come a little bit sooner.
