Nostradamus Van Gundy

Good Lord….
Just when we think we’ve heard everything from ABC/ESPN NBA expert analyst Jeff Van Gundy, he strikes again with another mind-boggling rant pertaining to the Miami Heat.
Buckle up, here it comes.
“They will break the single season win record (of 72). And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers’ 33-game (winning) streak in (1971-72) as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.”
“They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected. There is no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will.” –Miami Herald
For those who haven’t read or heard about Van Gundy’s latest claim, you missed one hell of a revelation of glory.
In terms of the regular season winning record, Van Gundy was referring to the 1995-1996 season when Michael Jordan and company went 72-10 on their way to winning another NBA Championship.
Does he really believe the Heat are that good? You better believe it.
Call it what you will, but Van Gundy’s track record of confident predictions that seem all too outrageous at first, have managed to play out as predicted. Now the 33 game winning streak set by the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers leaves a lot to be desired, but on the other hand, only time will tell.
Never ceasing to amaze the audience, Jeff Van Gundy may be one of the best announcers in sports today, especially when he and Mark Jackson are paired up together. There is never a dull moment.
When you sort through all of the off-the-wall quotes from JVG, by far and away this set takes the cake. Will it be the last?
No.
One of two things will transpire from the Heat’s quest in breaking the Chicago Bulls regular season record of 72 wins. The first, Jeff Van Gundy will instantly jump to the raving status of the historic prophet Nostradamus if his intuition holds up. On the other hand, the worst case scenario (if you prefer to call it worst case) plays out to where the Miami Heat win 60 games and still grab the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
Look at it this way. No matter which way you spin the upcoming season for the Miami Heat, winning will be the headline on a nightly basis.
Although a bewildering thought to take in all at once, Jeff Van Gundy may very well have hit the nail on the head….again.
