Michael Vick: Predicting His 2010-11 Season Week-By-Week

RM HeroldAug 4, 2010

Now that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell  has decided that Michael Vick won't see any disciplinary action for the shooting incident at his birthday party, the Philadelphia Eagles are free to incorporate Vick into all of their future plans.

But this could be tricky since they are also breaking in a new starting quarterback.

So let's do some prognosticating and think about what Vick's second season back in the league will look like...

Week 1: Vs The Green Bay Packers

1 of 17

This is  a huge game right off the bat. I predict that unlike in years past where Andy Reid might go pass happy, the Eagles will run the ball.

I think Reid knows that Green Bay will win if he tries to have a shoot out with them. So expect to see a lot of LeSean McCoy and also to see some roll outs and bootlegs with Vick.

I see Vick throwing and running for a combined hundred yards, while Kevin Kolb will throw for over 250 in a high scoring game.

But I see Green Bay winning.

Week 2: @ The Detroit Lions

2 of 17

This game might be more competitive than in other years, but it's still might get ugly late. Vick will play clean up duty as Kolb gets his first 300 yard passing game of the year.

Vick might even score late.

Week 3: @ Jacksonville Jaguars

3 of 17

Jacksonville will challenge the Philly defense with its power running game.

Maurice Jones-Drew can beat you receiving and running, and on defense they are going to hit Kolb early and often. If the game is close, then no Vick time.

If the game gets out of hand one way or the other, I can see Vick getting a lot of time in the fourth quarter.

Week 4: Vs The Washington Redskins

4 of 17

A home game for Philly. A New head coach (Mike Shanahan), a new defensive system and, oh yeah, a new quarterback (some guy named Donovan McNabb) for Washington.

This one could get wild.

I can see Kolb trying too hard and throwing some early interceptions. Would Reid pull him if the moment gets too big for his young quarterback?

Vick plays some early and if he plays well, he might play a lot.

Week 5: @ The San Francisco 49ers

5 of 17

It would be good advice for Kolb to stay away from San Francisco heavy hitters like Patrick Willis and possibly rookie Taylor Mays.

The Niners have a great running game and a stud at wide reciever, so it's important for the Eagles to keep this game close and win it at the end, especially after coming off an emotional game the week before.

This could be a grind-it-out affair that comes down to the last drive, so I don't see Vick playing much in this game at all.

Week 6: Vs The Atlanta Falcons

6 of 17

Football is an emotional sport. So if Vick doesn't play much the week before, I can see Reid giving him plenty of opportunity to play well against his old team.

I can see a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown in this game for Vick.

Week 7: @ The Tennessee Titans

7 of 17

The Titans are known for having a hard hitting defense. They are also known for being slow starters before picking things up mid-season.

All that could mean a tough game for Vick and the Eagles.

So, unless there is an injury to Kolb, (and that is a possibility considering some of these tough defenses that they play) Vick might not play much in some of these games.

But there is a possibility that if the Eagles passing game doesn't take off, Vick and the running game could be used more.

Minimal yards and opportunities in this one.

Week 8: Bye Week

8 of 17

Get up and stretch, grab a beer...

Okay, let's get back to the season.

Week 9: Vs The Indianapolis Colts

9 of 17

Coming off of their bye week and this being a big ticket game and nationally televised, Reid will probably put in quite a few plays for Vick.

Also, at this point the verdict should be in on whether Kolb can lead the team or if it is going to be a two-man quarterbacking situation.

I think it will be the latter, and I see Michael Vick playing quite a bit and causing a QB controversy—especially if the Eagles pull off a possible upset here.

Week 10: @ The Washington Redskins

10 of 17

By this time of the year, Shanahan will have the team playing the way that he wants. And even Albert Haynesworth will be on the same page as his new coach.

Add all that up and throw in McNabb getting into a groove, and this game could mean trouble for Vick and the Eagles.

Possible mop up duty in a blowout?

Week 11: Vs The NY Giants

11 of 17

I see this as Kevin Kolb's coming out party.

The Giants run defense is usually tough, and they have a stable of running backs. So I think Kolb is going to have to pass the ball for a lot of yards to pull this game out.

Vick might not get too much playing time in this one.

Week 12: @ Chicago

12 of 17

The week after Thanksgiving, and the weather is getting colder. And being that the game is in Chicago, there might be snow already on the field.

This means that the running game and accurate passing is key.

Unless Kolb is banged up or the game is a out of reach, I see Vick spending a lot of time with the clipboard.

Week 13: Vs The Houston Texans

13 of 17

Around this time of the year the Houston Texans usually have a lull. I think the Eagles are going to catch them at the right moment and blow them out.

I think Kolb will have another huge game, and I think Vick will play the fourth quarter and put up some decent numbers.

With the playoffs coming in a month, I think we'll still know who is the starter and who is the backup.

Week 14: @ The Dallas Cowboys

14 of 17

I feel like this could be a huge game for both the Eagles and Michael Vick. Maybe it's because the spot light is going to be on him, or maybe Kolb gets banged up.

But look for the quarterback controversy to rise back up late in the year.

Week 15: @ The NY Giants

15 of 17

Back-to-back division road games will either make or break the Eagles' season. Will Kolb be up to the pressures of being a quarterback on a possible playoff team in the most competitive division in all of football?

This is the hardest part of the season to predict.

Still, I think this is where Vick takes over as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and leads them to the win.

Seems like Vick is Reid's type of quarterback—a veteran who can improvise.

Week 16: Vs The MInnesota Vikings

16 of 17

This game could mean so much.

It could mean playoff positioning, or it could determine whether one or both of these teams even makes the playoffs.

Brett Favre could be playing or he could be back in Mississippi.

Vick could be starting at quarterback or he could be back on the bench.

This could be the most important game of the season for Philadelphia.

Week 17: Vs The Dallas Cowboys

17 of 17

If I had to bet on any game that Michael Vick, starts it would most likely be this one, and it could be for several different reasons.

1) Philly has clinched the division and sits Kolb.

2) Philly has missed the playoffs and wants to showcase Vick in case they want to trade him.

3) Philly is in a fight for the playoffs and Vick has won the starting spot.

4) Kolb is hurt.

Unless they do miss the playoffs, Vick will be helping the team prepare for the playoffs the following week and the fun will start all over again.
