San Francisco 49ers 2010 Season: Playoff Bound, Game By Game

Thomas MorelandJul 31, 2010

Move over Jerry Rice. Make way Terrell Owens. There's a new wide out waiting to bust out this first full season named Michael Crabtree.

Crabtree will be a key ingredient all season as the Forty-Niners claim the division deserted by Kurt Warner in 2010.

I, for one, don't see any other team challenging the Niners in this cream pie division known as the NFC West.

No one expects Matt Leinart to do anything in Arizona, except maybe 500 ball.

Seattle is a work in progress and the Rams are still more like lost sheep.

The San Francisco Forty Niners open the gates to face Seattle on the road in Game One of the 2010 season.

The Mike Singletary led team will certainly not want to lose the opener to a division rival and thus cast doubt into what should be a good season.

Expect a very hard hitting first defensive effort, coupled by the pounding of Frank Gore and a more exciting corp of pass catchers. 1-0 to start.

Game Two of the regular season finds the Niners finds the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints in town for the season home opener.

This is exciting until the game slips away slowly and the thrill is gone. 1-1 now. Let's try to keep it realistic.

Game Three of the NFL 2010 regular season is against Kansas City, again on the road for San Francisco. This is one of those must win games to keep a good division gap on everyone else.

The Niners should handle Kansas City, and move up to 2-1 for the young season.

Again on the road in Game Four finds us all the way to the East Coast to take on the Falcons. Again, we must be realistic in our thinking, and this game most likely is a loss. 2-2 now.

The Forty-Niners now come home to face the new look Eagles with Kevin Kolb at quarterback.

This will be an under, as the defense for both teams slug it out. A home win would be big here, and the Niners get this one in a close battle right to the end. 3-2 hopefully.

In week six, we have the battle of the Bay, with the Forty-Niners coming out on top in this game against the crosstown Raiders and stretching that record to 4-2 already.

Another brutal East Coast trip to Carolina is a 50/50 shot at a win. Let's just say the Niners drop this one, which should not matter in the long run. 4-3 is alright, and they could very possibly be 5-2 at this point.

Week Eight is back at home against Denver, which is a win in my book this season. The Forty-Niners are starting to get noticed around the league at this point in the season with a record of at least 5-3 now.

Week Nine is a bye week, and a record of 5-3 or even 6-2 is possible entering the break. we will go with the lower guess of 5-3 so far.

Week Ten brings the Rams to town in a division match-up. Sam Bradford may be playing full time now, and the Rams should have improved by now.

This game won't be taken lightly by Singletary's staff or players as they notch another win for 2010. 6-3 now.

Week 11 is also a win as Tampa Bay comes visiting, then leaves quickly back to Florida. 7-3.

The San Francisco Forty-Niners are now in the drivers seat, showcasing the talent of their team on Monday Night Football against division rival Arizona.

Who plays the quarterback for the Cardinals at this point in the season is anyone's guess as the Niners' stamp an exclamation point on the season with a big win and get to 8-3.

Here is a hiccup in the schedule as they travel to Green Bay, get their helmets handed to them and come back home sheepishly at 8-4 now. Green Bay may be the team to beat in 2010 to reach the Super Bowl as the NFC representative.

After geeting stomped by Green Bay, they rally to beat Seattle for the second time and push that record to 9-4, still very good, and a two game division lead easily.

The Chargers might be in disarray in this next game, but still this could be tough and I have given the Niners much leeway so far, so this is a loss to even the board out a bit. 9-5 now. But  a good possibility to win this game also and be at a stunning 10-4.

The Niners beat the Rams again, and have one game left and are at 10-5 or 11-4. Both these records will win the NFC West.

The last game of the regular season is at home against Arizona on e more time. That's a winner and this team is now 11-5 or maybe even 12-4.

With a variable adjustment both ways, the worst this team will do in 2010 is 10-6, which will win this division. Seattle, Arizona, or the Rams will not win 10 games this season.

I look for the Niners to be at 11-5 minimum and a first round factor in the playoffs this season.

Humbly yours, Thomas [NFL Mikee] Moreland
