2010 Fantasy Player Watch: Is Marques Colston on the Decline?

Ray TannockJul 29, 2010

It is being reported that Marques Colston will start training camp on the active/PUP list after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to correct a "lingering" issue during the offseason.

Well this is interesting isn’t it?

Not only is this a topic that not a lot of people were aware of, it simply came out of the blue taking many people by surprise.

But that’s not all.

There is no denying the Saints’ capabilities on offense with Drew Bress at the helm, but there are some lingering questions surrounding Colston with this recent development that you may not have considered.

Colston has already undergone a knee scope and a microfracture repair making his recent development very much cause for concern, especially for those of you in Dynasty or Keeper leagues.

Knee problems with receivers are not a good thing, just read this post on the fantasy decline of Donald Driver.

Currently, Colston is ranked 11th in WR, and is being drafted 31st overall (rankings provided by myfantasyleague.com)

But consider this.

There are plenty of rising WRs in the top 50 that are just as worthy of a top 30 pick aside of Colston. For crying out loud, Vince Jackson and Wes Welker are STILL in the top 25.

Players such as Austin Collie, Mike Sims-Walker, and Devin Aromashodu are all players likely to have the same type of success that is associated with Colston, if not more.

So for the interim, keep an eye on this development, but moving forward, I believe Colston’s best days (fantasy wise anyway) are behind him, with so many rising starts about to take the reins.

There’s more to fantasy than just the big names; come see why Austin Collie’s fantasy stock is on the rise.
